2024 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And, before too many gripe about rule, think about the consequences …. Arizona and SFG are only teams w 2 Az rookie teams. If you have 5 teams (AAA, AA, A+, A, rookie) - that is 5 teams. 5 x 30 = 150 Players. AAA/AA has 28 player limit and 30 in A+/A. Think rookie ball is 35 (or unlimited)

Main issue is our draft and hide policy becomes a bit harder. And we cut 15 guys ranked 166-180 range. Is that a big loss when we are grooming 21 draftees + 7-15 DSLers for 4-5 years? It just means some DSL guys stay there a bit longer till we get a better feel if they are a top 165 talent.

So the mid-tier DsL talent could easily get a delay... I wonder if there is a limit on how many DSL teams we are allowed to have?

There are 50 DSL teams -- so most have 2 (as we do as we got rid of 1/2 share w MIL who also has 2 now). Doubt you go more than that as you need 30+ players (especially with teenage arms that are not fully stretched). And, as it is a full year type academies ... they are always getting looks (pick up games/sim games) even if you keep 5-15 kids behind a bit longer. It is not that big of deal (and cost saver for MLB as the minimum wage rules don't apply down there).

Don't want to get too political on this forum, but there are always a downside when you want more money .... Business, is always asking is it worth the pay to keep those 165-180 guys... But, it means the independent leagues/Korea may pick up some of these guys for development.

Isn't MLBPA only for players on the 40 man?

True, true, but they actually have had some say in the MiLB as well since it does affect them... My point was why did they allow for way less players....

I don't think any of us are surprised to see Aleman getting a vote by someone... Law is making the Quantrill trade look better right now at least since we got Huff for Quantrill

Do you happen to have any other lists so we can actually compare them all? I am curious...
I have Baseball Prospectus, BUT their list has two asterisk marks for me which is why I didn't include it. They only did a top ten as opposed to a wider one like other publications. They also had Rocchio out of their rookie rankings, which was odd to me and I didn't want that to skew how folks looked at their list in comparison to others.

Unfortunately, I don't have a Baseball America subscription to view theirs. I haven't seen an updated list from Fangraphs just yet.

Justin Lada's list is:
1. Manzardo
2. Espino
3. DeLauter
4. Brito
5. Rocchio
6. Ralphy
7. Cantillo
8. Campbell
9. Valera

True, but a small market team is very reliant upon prospects so my mentality is have as many as possible and if that means having 3 teams or more I would be all for it! Lol Heck I would even invest in them all being apart of an academy so they get a high school diploma and skills outside of baseball, even train some as coaches... I'd be the one all parents want my kids to go to! Lol

Fangraphs has their top 100 coming out Thursday and then their team lists are a random draw. So far they have only released 7 of the 30 teams.

No Tena?

Lots of strange recency bias in some of those lists.

Keep in mind that the mlbpipeline list isn't updated yet, we only know they have DeLauter 1st, Manzardo 2nd, Rocchio 3rd and Espino 4th, because of their already updated top 100. Team lists will be released in March iirc. FG who knows when...

The roster cuts shouldn't hurt too much. It hurts some vet NRIs, mid level DSL guys getting stashed back in DSL and some reclamation upper level RP (minors R5 draftees)

I do like that the AZL/ACL will start sooner in May

Looks like 1-4 are pretty much agreed to.. and interchangeable.. Everything after that is open to debate..

When ranking prospects ... this is an interesting tweet on some other guys who are working out (depth camp roster) in Arz beyond the 40 man and NRI ... these are guys who will go in for later innings to just mop up. But, the keys that I saw was no Nickhazy, Mace, Dion nor Wolfe (or they are just ramping up for roles in minor league camp). May mean nothing as there could be mechanical issues still going on (why put them in too early if they need something adj) or just being groomed for minor league camp/games but just weird that they were all high profile kids.

Don't forget Bibee and Williams weren't in last year's camp if I remember correctly...
