2024 Minor League Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I keep wanting to comp Collado to Luis Arraez but I know that is a lil crazy... Collado dropped an easy pop fly the other day, and the fact he is 1B only (despite being a smaller guy) tells me he is really a DH at this point. I kind of like him, but he's going to have to hit very well because he doesn't seem to have any defensive value.

Collado doesn't look special, but he somehow has the 4th best OBP in all of minors. That's over 1100 hitters with 50+ PA.

My internal comp is Juan Brito

Absolutely.

Kayfus and Ingle are the gems on the LC roster. Agree that his ABs just look good, very composed. You know you're seeing a special prospect when even his outs look good more often than not.

Kayfus is also way more athletic than your average 1B prospect and can play a solid OF too.

He could become our Alex Kirilloff.

Ingle is unique. A Kwan type that could catch is pretty unique.

My hidden gems are Jonah Advincula and Guy Lipscomb. I'm shocked Lipscomb doesn't get regular playing time at the expense of Justin Boyd and Jose Burgos. He's a much better talent than both. Boyd was a terrible mistake they're trying to polish, but I hope they realize quickly that he doesn't have MLB upside. Burgos is an ok periphery prospect worth giving playing time, but Lipscomb should be priority.

Jonah Advincula reminds me of Wil Brennan, but with Kwan's approach. Special mix.
I likened Ingle to Cole Carrigg (with the Rockies).. clearly a unicorn... puts the bat on the ball while controlling the strike zone.. The scouting on him was that he was a defense first backstop.. He just plays & uses his enormous BB IQ to get whatever job he's assigned done.. that includes either corner OF, 2B and, his best spot.. catcher.. W/R to his power.. with time, nutrition and coaching.. the sky is the limit.. he's no slouch to begin with..

Hehe, I've got 2 others for day 3 (yes, one is his best buddy at Stanford).

Few more Canadians.
Plus it would be nice for Bazzana to have someone to talk to while they're learning the language.

ahh... the churchhill reference.. Aussies (SIC) and Americans are one people separated by a common language...

What's the rush? Send him to LC and see how he does. Technically, it's still April. If he does well, Akron will still be there after the All-Star break. If he then succeeds at AA, he shoots way up the prospect boards.
Why do you think I'm rushing? Bimbo suggested that he shouldn't run into any difficulty until AA. If he isn't being challenged then what's the point and like I said, he can easily be sent to LC if he struggled in Akron.

What’s your guys’ take on Yordys Valdes? I noticed last year he started to hit with a lil more power and this year he’s off to a pretty torrid start at Akron hitting .340. Glove was always his premium and the reason he was drafted so high, but he’s been pretty much an afterthought since. Could he be this year’s Aaron Bracho, a guy who forces you to remember who they are?

Yordys is a "typical" Cleveland middle infield talent.. Other than being a switch hitter, he does nothing that can be considered extraordinary or special. He swings more naturally from the right side than the left.. so, it may be that he took up switch hitting to open up more opportunities for longevity in baseball... His entire package (hit/speed/arm/glove) is what will keep him around for the duration.. He's could use about 15 pounds of good muscle & may achieve that with maturity.. If he can get more bat on ball with authority, he has a Lourdes Gurriel vibe about him.. otherwise.. just a typical .. you know the rest..

How many fat pitchers have you seen suffer a major arm injury?

I'm being semi serious.

There haven't been that many fat pitchers, honestly, but they don't seem to get hurt.

Early Wynn, who got a lot heavier as he aged. 58.5 fWAR

Mike Garcia, the Big Bear, also got wider. 40.1 fWAR.

Mickey Lolich. 64.4 fWAR

CC Sabathia. 66.5 fWAR

Bartolo Colon. 51 fWAR

Jumbo Brown was a reliever for 13 years in MLB. He weighed 295.

Jonathan Broxton was a good reliever for 13 yrs, with nearly 700 appearances. He weighed 285.

Jeff Fulchino was a reliever for five years. He had two really good years with Houston. He weighed 270.

Maybe, instead of the baseball backfields, we should be scouting the buffets. Less weights, more food.

I do think that baseball players, and pitchers esp, are being over trained. There are too many injuries today that weren't even heard of forty years ago.

You don't hear of plough horses pulling a tendon or having to be put down because they shattered a leg.

There is such a thing as being too finely tuned.

Babe Ruth - 94-46 record with 1.159 WHIP

As for when will Manzardo arrive, there are two important dates.

The first, guaranteeing that control of Manzardo doesn't end early, has passed.

The second is the Super Two cutoff, which isn't known until after the season, but it generally falls within a week or so of June 1st. Because of the Guardians financial situation, it has the same practical effect as the first date. Not having the financial wherewithal to pay in arby is the same as losing control.

There are now incentives in place to encourage teams to call top prospects up, but the odds of hitting those incentives are fairly long and the cost is high.

The Guards lost last year on Bibee.

Is it cynical? Yes.
Is it financially responsible for an org run on a shoe string? Absolutely.

Why waste all of those words when a simple meme makes the point.
