2024 Season | Series #1 | Guardians @ A's | March 28-31, 2024

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Some changes from last year. Loving Freeman for Straw in center. Hope to be loving Rocchio for Arias but that is TBD. Love Jose batting second - the more often he's up the better. I'm liking Fry at DH against a lefty.

Alex Wood shut us out for four innings last year in a long relief job. He faced the same hitters as tonight except Freeman, Rocchio, and Hedges are in for Straw, Arias, and Bo Naylor. Bo went 1-for-1 against him.

Right-handed batters hit .270/.801 against Wood last year. Hedges is 1-for-11 against him. Current Guardians are 5-for-30 lifetime against Wood with NO walks and no earned runs. Four singles and one double (by Laureano). This guy is one of those soft-tossing lefties who kills us. He doesn't even throw a fastball, just a 91 mph sinker, a changeup, and a curve.

The key will be to try and get something in the air against this guy. He's a ground ball machine.

Will be an interesting year. Could easily see this team winning the Central and just as easily see the team finish 3rd in the Central. I don't think it will take a very impressive record to win the AL Central.

If the team is successful, I think the power numbers will be generated from guys or at least positions where they haven't been in recent memory and that will hopefully be a result in part of guys like CDL and KM getting call-ups. And a couple guys will need rebound in the bullpen (Clase and Hentges) and a couple new faces will need to emerge to seize important roles. If the bullpen struggles and the power does not come, probably looking at a repeat of last year... where the team just never gets into a groove.

It'll be interesting to see Vogt. Feels like Francona kind of had an MO of teams that started a bit slow but found their grove in June or July if it was going to be a good year. We obviously have no idea what a Vogt team will do. But I think he's going to work tirelessly and be able to motivate the clubhouse.

There was never an Alex Wood in the farm system. Zach Gelof was taken by the Indians in 2018 as a late round shot in the dark signing attempt, but he was never in the system.
Yep, I was thinking of Alex White.

From what I figure from spring training mixed with what the announcers said/guessed... Gimenez will hit 2nd against right handed SPs while down in the lineup against left handed pitchers...
Which makes sense... it still doesn't make me feel too much better about that % of our team salary being used on a guy that has to hit 7th vs lefties. When the Guards dish out money like that, the hitter better be batting in your top 5 every day.

I hate football and the Cavs are a shit show. Feels like Christmas today.

Just want to call your attention to this thread, since I only looked for and found it today:
