Well the offseason has finished so we gotta start the season thread!!
Why would the Pirates want Rosario? I understand that Cruz just went down with injury, but I'd guess they would want a more inexpensive, long term possibility. Someone that could become their utility when Cruz returns.

The only way Rosario works for them is if we send a fair amount of his salary with him. Regardless, if I were them I'd look to give a prospect an opportunity.
Especially one that isn't very good.This.
The Pirates aren't trying to win a WS this year. Why would they pay for a veteran on the last year of his deal?
They'd be much more likely to trade for one of Arias/Freeman/Rocchio/Tena.
NO
On the other hand though if Cruz is their long term solution anyway then I'm not sure why they'd want anything other than a stopgap. This is a team that signed Austin Hedges so they clearly don't mind short term veterans filling holes. Why would the Pirates want Rosario? They are not getting rid of Gallagher as our primary back-up right now during the season for a hope and prayer. If he batted lefty, I would possibly say okay over Viloria. But, a few weeks from when Hentges comes back, you are looking to DFA Viloria anyways for 40-man slot. And, who gets displaced in Columbus? Collins is raking but still getting no time at catching (3 games) with Naylor. Plus, I am sure someone will put a claim in before our position is slotted. And, if we claimed him, he goes on 40 man for who? Viloria? Then Hentges or another pitcher comes back and we DFA him (at least for a bit), will he accept the assignment (being DFAed twice)?Payton Henry Minor Leagues Statistics | Baseball-Reference.com

Henry just got DFA'D... and I believe he's got an option for this year. Is he worth getting?

I am also just wondering how long we keep 3 catchers as Zunino has started 9 games (but completed only 5) and Viloria has gone 6 games (14 innings) but mainly after PH for catcher and fill-in afterwards (4 plate appearances). Sooner or later, they will start have Zunino come in for an inning or two after Gallagher. As you are talking shoulder issues with Zunino, I assume they just didn't want him to go in late without getting shoulder warmed up on a cold day when sitting all game (even though not throwing shoulder).
That's fair, he still has a minor league option for this season (I believe since he was at AAA) so he would add more roster flexibility in a sense cause Gallagher and Viloria cannot be optioned down.
Numbers game says get him if his defense is equal to Gallaghers, stats say Gallagher is a way better blocker than Henry, but that's just quick reference. I was curious what @Gson thought of him as a catcher since he likes to evaluate catchers...
But, you are suggesting replacing he with Gallagher (for righty/righty bat) on the fly ... without working with our staff or pitchers. Hedges did it in 2020. But, without a clear upgrade, doubt they disrupt status quo for mainly lateral move. And, extra option is nice but main concern for FO and posters is 40 man spaces...
I'd guess that they could be optioned down after clearing waivers. The question is how likely would it be that they were claimed. Me says not very. That's fair, he still has a minor league option for this season (I believe since he was at AAA) so he would add more roster flexibility in a sense cause Gallagher and Viloria cannot be optioned down.
