What the fuck where the DBacks thinking? That's a terrible deal for a player like Varsho IMO.

They really like Moreno and feel he is the future...

I was surprised to when I saw the news... I didn't think anyone would actually end up getting Varsho cause of his price in my mind...

I'll be Karen Contrarian on this one. The Jays, being a team named after a bird themselves, realized that two in the hand is worth one in the bush- they dealt the guy with 5-7 WAR potential for the guy already putting up a 5 WAR. And IMO, Gurriel is a throw-in, and it doesn't bode well for the value of his doppelganger, one Germán Amed Valdez Cristal Rosario. The DBacks basically chose to bet on the prospect reaching their potential over the Varsho, who they probably assume has maxed out his. I think the Jays made the smart move here.

I actually thought it's a clear win for Arizona
Not with Moreno's lack of power it isn't IMO. A prospect ranked as highly as him and being traded for a player like Varsho better damn well have that upside if I'm making this deal. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Bo ends up a better all around ML catcher than Moreno. Not in the slightest.

I'll take a "throw in" that plays multiple positions 2B/OF, hits .290/.340/.400, is cost controlled and a veteran leader... Getting the best or one of the top three backstops in the minor leagues, noted for his bat & arm with six years of club control.. seems worth while for a team that has a contending window of 2024/7..

Giving up Varsho will hurt.. JohnBitzer explained @sportscoach 's contention that Varsho was rated too high.. that was as a catcher and a CF.. which increased his value artificially.. Scoach, in short is correct about Varsho being valued too highly..

Francisco Alvarez of the Mets.. is in a similar situation.. fwiw....

Then Moreno is being valued too highly due to only being a C. It can't be both ways and Varsho's value is probably more accurate due to his versatility. Varsho playing the OF along with C is more due to his potent bat than his inability to catch. That and they have Kelly who is a pretty good backstop in his own right. Great deal for Toronto IMO. They got exactly what they needed and filled that need about as well as one could hope. The DBacks will have to wait and see.

You know after thinking about it a bit, Bo could be a very similar player to Varsho. Good athlete with good speed with the ability to be a good C and OFer. I'm not saying that's who Bo will be, but there are some similarities there I'd say.

Bo isn't the same type of athlete as him... Bo may be able to do some corner, but no way CF...

Now the Mets are making "noise" about Carlos Correa's lower leg injury from 8 years ago.. Statements, unofficial are trending to the belief that uncle stevie will pass on taking action w/r to this massive contract even though the physical is exposing whatever this is..

I wonder if the contract will be changed or not...

Watch it come out that Correa has been playing with a prosthetic leg all these years...

I have a hunch, he has scars in a sense from an old injury and they believe it will effect his long term playing

Dude has a plate in his leg from the injury he suffered in the minors. Apparently he tweaked it back in September, and his lower leg went numb for a short period afterward. Huge fucking red flag. Going to be hilarious watching Boras find a new team after burning a couple bridges in the last few months.
