The average monthly temps...high and low...for San Diego:

April 69-57
May 70-60
June 72-63
July 75-66
August 77-68
September 77-66

Also, it basically doesn't rain in San Diego from April 1st to November 1st.

What do you think attendance for Guardian games in April and May would look like if fans knew it would be warm and never rain, sleet, or snow?

Amed is our shortstop, and rightfully so.

He isnt going anywhere, unless Antonetti receives an overwhelming offer that overcomes Tito's objections.

The continued two way argument that Amed is a bad player, but other teams want him, is inane.

The idea that he could easily replaced by one of our prospects, but not some other teams prospects, is also inane. We think we have great MIF prospects, but there are a score of MIF prospects rated higher than any of ours.

We don't have a MIF prospect, like Lindor....or Amed.

Thank you!

Another (secondary) reason that Amed is still here is that the org has made a (provisional) decision on the future of shortstop in the org.

Since Rocchio was called up to Columbus, he mainly played short. In his pro career, he has seldom played anything but MIF. He is being groomed to be Gimenez' partner. Arias and Freeman are being groomed to play all over the field.

We've seen this before. Kipnis, an outfielder, was groomed to be a our 2B. JRam, a 2B for three years, was groomed to be a multipositional player to fit into whatever spot was needed, which ended up being third. We had Kip, and the provisional decision was made that Lindor would be the SS.

Now, its only provisional. Rocchio has to produce this season in order to be in Clevelands middle infield next year. But if he does, the decision has been made.

I don't think any decisions have been made. There are some options created and the final decisions will come down to performance as it should.

That's the one variable that hasn't been fully explored by folks who are dead certain Amed won't be here in 2024. There is a small, but non-zero, chance that all of Arias, Freeman, and Rocchio severely under perform in 2023 or suffer significant, career altering, injuries. If that happens and the Guardians go deeper in the playoffs with Rosario playing a key role, I can't see them moving on from him if he's willing to sign a reasonable contract. Again, I think the likelihood is extremely low, but these decisions should "come down to performance."

I seriously doubt that a single conversation has been had regarding Amed Rosario signing an extension from the FO side.

Edited to say that could change, but it would mean that our good prospects have failed.

Right, there's no chance of an extension now, but this time next year might (small but non-zero chance) it might be different.

The last few years we’ve extended some guys out of nowhere, unless I just wasn’t looking in the right places at the time.

Clase and Straw I didn’t hear one word about a potential extension until it was agreed to and announced.

Chance that we do something similar with Amed I’d imagine. But I agree, only way that happens is if we aren’t confident in the prospects who would most likely replace him next year.

Amed won't be here in 24...

Manny Machado has been dissuaded from opting out of his contract after the 2023 season with the Padres.. He's going to sign an 11 year $ 350 MM contract to stay..

No home town discount was considered..

Edit: The contract is, in effect, an extension of the deal he was already working on.. The dollars result in the 11 years..

I'd likely have said, "Good luck, see ya!"

Because this was just greed. But hey, let SD overpay for his slowly but surely diminishing skills!

If I have $35MM every year to just piss away, I think I can lure more than a few prime-ass players into my web.

Gavin Lux took a terrible misstep running between 2B and 3B.. It looked a LOT like a hyper extended knee.. possibly worse.. If the injury is serious..

I find it highly ironic that all of @sportscoach threads are always bumped to the top and are always together at minutes apart….
