The start of the American summer holiday driving season is sending Ulster fuel prices through the roof, it was claimed yesterday, as the price of a litre of unleaded crashed through the £1 barrier.
One filling station in Enniskillen was last night selling unleaded at 102p a litre, with diesel at 99p.

anytime you get something direct its going to be cheaper, your paying also for the time/money it took to ship it over here on an oil tanker.

Is that why oil companies had record profits? I'm not buying it. I'm an economics major... I know direct costs and such of shipping. However, technology is constantly making this cheaper. It's not about shipping... it's about supply and demand. Not to mention gas is inelastic and demand for gas does not respond to change in price. The fact is more people around the world want gas now. They can charge more also because of a shortage. The shortage is attributed to more countries demanding oil.

I dont believe your an economics major, what college are you attending?
Its not about shipping? Do you think the people who drive oil tankers bring it over for ree or out of the kindness of there heart? Supply and demand is a big factor, but there are other things factored into it.

I think it's pretty open that I'm an Ohio University student. I've mentioned it several times in my disliking of OSU and I've mentioned I've seen Jared Jordan live. Supply and demand is the main factor of gas prices. True, they ship oil and such. Shipping has to do with it, but not nearly as much as OPEC (who controls supply). Look pre 1970's and then years after. You will notice a clear cut differance in the fact that OPEC finally learned about supply in demand.

So in saying "Notice the cheapest gas is in the oil countries" you were pointing out that the countries with all this oil arent as dependant on it as countries that dont? not trying to sound confrontational, by the way.

No, I said that cause I believe OPEC price gouges and makes up shortages.

It also has a lot to do with the country's ability to refine the oil.

It's the subsidies. When your state-owned oil producer is making a killing at 70 dollars a barrell, you have plenty of money left over to keep fuel prices low. And give your citizens stipends, build virtually free housing, hand out cars and basically have all work done by disenfrenchised immigrants.

Today's crude and natural gas prices mean that even Russia is running a huge budget surplus, it doesn't even know what to do with that cash. Well, they do know that they don't want to just give it away to ordinary Russians.

One major factor that has not been brought up is that we are maxed out when it comes to transporting the oil to America.

There are only so many tankers that can bring oil to the states, and while more of them are being built the SUPPLY AND DEMAND factor is one of the major reasons for the increase in prices. If only x amount is being brought over and more and more people need it, including china, it gets expensive.
