All-Star Weekend in Cleveland Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I could agree with Thompson as well. Oddly enough I just picked up his auto this weekend online.

I don't think playing next to a top player should disqualify someone bc at the end of the day all the greats played next to another great (minus Hakeem) at some point in their career. Both sides feed off of one another.
Sure, but that player needs to be exceptional on their own. I am not going penalize someone like Dan Issel for playing his best years next to Artis Gilmore. I just don't think Klay on his own is more than a solid allstar level player. Is Jerry Stackhouse someone you see as a top 75 player? I dont think so

How about a great that served next to too many greats?

Kevin Love would have continued to put up monster numbers in Minnesota.

Imagine had he stayed there and averaged 23-25 ppg along with 11-12 rpg from 2014-2020.

An additional few All-Star appearances along with another few All-NBA 2nd or 3rd team honors.

"Kevin Love 9x All-Star, 5x All-NBA teams, x2 Olympic Gold Medalist, Model..."

Would he not also be considered?
I think Love is probably a top 80-90 guy as is. I view him in a similar level as someone like Tom Chambers, maybe a bit higher

If Klay gets in then we have to add World B Free, Andre Miller, Jim Chones and Wally.

Chambers was more like a Larry Bird knockoff. High offense, good passing. He was more athletic than Love, but I think Love's career is longer. Love is way better at rebounding. I'd put Chambers slightly higher.

Haven't heard about him for years.

A-fucking-men.

Imagine being chosen as one of the best ever at what you do. To be honored amongst your peers, in front of the whole world. Get to soak in that moment and be in a photo with the 74 other guys who are considered the best ever.

Just to sit at home and wave like a jack ass.

Older guys get a pass with everything going on. Pippen just had surgery (maybe could have planned that better). But everyone else should be ashamed of themselves. Especially guys like Anthony Davis who arguably has 10 players better than him who should he on this list. Maybe a lot more had Lebron not bailed him out of New Orleans.

Forgot to mention who had a legit excuse was KD. His grandmother passed away that same morning. But I have a feeling he wouldn't have been there anyway (he's been having a fuck-off attitude towards the public lately). He has an excuse he can hang onto tho.

I'm gonna need proof.

75th team "snubs"
Vince Carter
Alex English
Dwight Howard
Adrian Dantley
Klay Thompson

I don't think Lillard or Davis deserved to sniff a fart in that arena let alone be on the team.
Only if guys like Tracy McGrady, Penny Hardaway, and Grant Hill had a healthy career, I'm curious where you fit those guys at. Grant Hill was a stud, and probably the best what if out there. The way offense is played today, he'd be a top all around guy. His first 6 seasons was something to be very excited about.

Grant Hill was my 1st superstar as a kid. It didn't help that everyone around me loved the way he played the game.

TMac, like Vince, are crucified for not having a title despite being right there in terms of top players for nearly a decade.

Talent wise they're all top 50. According to this NBA "anniversary team" I could see why they may not have the credentials.

TMac & Grant both had GOAT potential IMO if they had been healthy and with better organizations. Hell I would have liked to see them get healthy together on those Magic teams.

There are many what-if injury guys. Penny and Grant Hill are right up there, but I would throw in some of the more recent guys (Brandon Roy, Derrick Rose) and imo the guy who shouldve been the best 2 guard in David Thompson. Couple other old heads who missed time for various reasons like Groza and Hawkins too.

Chris Webber tho has no excuse. Top 30 talent, top 100ish production. So disappointing

I'd like to add that o strongly believe that Orlando's training staff should hold a lot of the blame with Grant. Healthy before his stint there and healthy after. While I get that players get into a funk for a few years; that always seems like a common denominator.
