Amnesty Cuts Thread

Let this be the official place for all the amnesty cuts as they come in.

First up, in a huge surpise the blazers cut Derek Anderson.

Blazers to be first team to use rule for luxury tax relief

Portland Trail Blazers guard Derek Anderson will be the first player waived under the NBA's new amnesty clause, NBA front-office sources said.

The amnesty clause is a one-time exception that allows every team in the league to release one player -- they have until Aug. 15 to do so -- to avoid paying any further luxury tax on the player's contract.

Portland will knock almost $19 million off its luxury tax tally with the move. Anderson had two years left on his contract.

The Blazers, according to sources, also are expected to release guard Nick Van Exel on Wednesday, making Van Exel and Anderson unrestricted free agents. Van Exel's $12.8 million salary for next season was not guaranteed.

Anderson, a big guard in the mode Phil Jackson has always preferred, is expected to draw interest from the Los Angeles Lakers as a potential backcourt partner to Kobe Bryant.

The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat are among the playoff contenders expected to pursue Van Exel, a former All-Star who has said in the past that he hopes to finish his career with a team in Texas -- and a team with title aspirations.

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

God I hope that you guys can add Austin Croshere to this thread soon.

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

Oh yea just stealin from mine on the NBA board lol

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

I hope the Celtics cut Bloun so we can get him not likely though, I'd love Adonal Foyle or Calvin Booth too, hopefully Booth being from Ohio and us being a good team will bring him here.

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

Others mentioned already are Micheal Finley and Alan Houston and Ron Mercer. Shandon Anderson and Mourning are also likely to be "waived" to clear the books for teams they have already left.

Have discussed NVE pretty thoroughly on an another thread. He would make a good addition, but don't know if he would return to OHIO. Still the fact that these two point guards are hitting the market bodes well for us, since it puts more PG options on the board.

I think we will see Damon Jones, Jaric, and Stoudamire more anxious to get a deal done.

First I'd heard Mourning mentioned with the Amnesty. I'd love to see Zo coming off our bench. A solid veteran to backup Z for a year or two till Mini Z is ready or someone else can be found.

Z & Zo. Daddy like.

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

Zo is cap amnesty for Toronto. He was traded there for Vince Carter.

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

Yup, Toronto is still paying Zo, so they get to "waive" him, but hes not available. I didn't know Toronto was in the lux tax, but i guess its a good move anyhow.

The Portland Trail Blazers waived Nick Van Exel and Derek Anderson

I searched Waive, and Exel and I didn't see much about this. Plus, the story was posted 4 hours ago so It's pretty new.

I hope we get Van Exel if we can't get D. Jones, Jaric, ect.

Houston is already after Derek Anderson and Nick Van Exel.

Amnesty List

List here the players who get waived by their teams. Thus far we have :

* Derek Anderson - Portland
* Brian Grant - LA Lakers
* Doug Christie - Orlando

Use this thread to talk about who'll go where. Anderson has been linked with the Lakers.

Re: Amnesty List

Grant's agent claimed that 12 teams contacted him with interest in Grant. So far Miami has been mentioned the most as a possible destination.

Christie is supposedly headed to Dallas.

So far no real possibilities for the Cavs. Grant might be one but with so many teams showing interest it won't happen.

Re: Amnesty Cuts Thread

Add Aaron McKie to the list of amnesty cuts. link
This one doesn't make my socks go up and down. :uhh:
