Braylon Edwards took another step on his road back to action Sunday when he participated in team drills against the defense for the first time.

Edwards returned to action July 30, just seven months off surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. He's been running patterns and participating in individual drills, but until Sunday he hadn't gone against any live defense.

Doing so is a step, albeit a small one. Edwards said there's "no way" he'll play in Thursday's preseason opener in Philadelphia, and he'll take his status week to week from there. His goal remains being healthy enough to play in the regular season opener Sept. 10 against New Orleans.

Browns Coach Romeo Crennel said he'll work Edwards in slowly and gradually add to his workload, starting with individual drills.

"Because we didn't have pads on today, it was easy to work him in with the team and let him get some things done," Crennel said. "He's been doing pretty well with the routes against the air. Maybe we'll start adding a little more to his plate to see how he handles that. If he can handle that, we might add some more the next week."

I really hope Braylon can be ready for the home opener agaisnt the Saints.. But I don't want Braylon to rush back..

Romeo should make sure he is completely 100% before he lets him in the game.. I'd rather him be out an extra 1 or 2 games, to be safe, then him getting injured again..
