Backup Free Agency Plan

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
what about a guy like EDDIE GRIFFIN ?

i know he had attitude problems awhile back ago.. but he turned it around last year- and just balled..

we need that backup PF to replace tractor, but this is a guy who i believe is a bit more talented then drew..so perhaps he could crack our starting 5

i'm not sure on his status-- but i believe he is a free agent ?-- you gotta give him the benefit of the doubt, since he had a full year of no problems..

what do you think ?

Ferry seems like a smart guy. So, he probably has plan A, B, C, ... Z. Plan A is to offer max to Redd and Allen and see who (if either) accepts.

If neither bites, my guess for Plan B is to offer the max to Joe Johnson. Why? Well, they already have the max budgeted for the SG. So, even though JJ may not be worthy of a "max deal," it would probably scare PHX away from matching. Even though they cleared out Q to NY, they probably don't expect to max out JJ. They have to max Amare and the owner doesn't seem to have deep pockets.

Plan C is probably a Bobby Simmons/Daniels thing like described above.

Griffin is one guy we need to stay as far away from as we can.

His past is enough to stay away and the way he played against us is a direct indicator of why we shouldnt touch him.

He doesnt like to bang, he'd rather shoot threes on offense and talk about a guy who just doesnt get it.

No way.,

I think it's far from a sure thing the Cavs can add any of the big 4 FA SG's. I don't see Hughes or Johnson leaving their teams. Redd does remain a fairly strong possibility but I think it's going to be awfully tough for hm to leave $20 million on the table.
Allen might be the strongest possibility of the big 4. It all depends on if Seattle ups their offer. The last I had heard was they offered 5 years $75 million which isn't anymore than the Cavs can offer him. The Clippers have shown interest but I'd think Allen would choose the Cavs over them.

I thought I might get ripped a little for my backup plan. Hopefully the Cavs are fully prepared to go hard after the best remaining FA's if they do miss out on the big 4 and can do something similar to it. I have confidence Ferry and co. do have plans in place for every possible scenario.

i posted this in the NBA Transaction thread but SAR is becoming the Nets Top Priority..

Recommendation: Abdur-Rahim is going to meet with a contingent from the Nets this week including Jason Kidd and part owner and rapper Jay-Z. The Nets are banking on the fact that Kidd and Abdur-Rahim went to the same college, California. Also, the Nets would give him the entire midlevel exception, roughly starting at $5 million. Abdur-Rahim's agent Aaron Goodwin, who has spoken several times with Nets president Rod Thorn and general manager Ed Stefanski, would rather his client come to the Nets in a sign-and-trade with Portland.

If that's all NJ can offer...Id try to jump in and snatch him up.

Id def give Rahim 5 per..no questions asked. We could find a suiter for Gooden after that, or even keep him if we have to.

if gooden could get his mind right, he would be dominant off the bench for us.

i just don't think he would accept that role.

If the Cavs do miss out on one of the 4 FA SG's I'd definitely go after Shareef with the money they'd have available. The plan I did had the Cavs offering him a contract that paid $7 million in the 1st year. He is just getting MLE offers now at $5 million so this offer gives him $2 million more in year one and $11.5 more total over a 5 year contract.
Shareef would be an upgrade over Gooden and provides much more consistency. It does make Gooden a huge part of the bench or gives the Cavs good trade bait to upgrade other positions.

It would be nice if the situation with Redd or whoever gets settled quickly so the Cavs go move on to their next options and not miss out on other FA's.
