Man, what a fall from grace this guy had. Takes the team to the playoffs, blows the Steelers out, goes down to the wire against the Chiefs, heads into the offseason on cloud 9, expects that to continue into the next season, has his eyes on a massive contract, and then... boom. Finds himself behind Darnold on the Panthers and possibly out of the league a season later.

If he had better control of his mouth and fingers, he would probably be in a better position.

The NFL is starved for even mediocre QB play.

His diminishing skills are what they are, but if he had, say, Jimmy G's attitude and smile, he would have had many suitors this past off-season.

With his record, and recognition that he was hurt all last season, I should think a decent number of teams would roll the dice on him.

But, his impudence and untethered petulance has teams unwilling to take on a mediocre QB who is also a locker-room sarcoma.

A modest dose of maturity could have salvaged his career.

In the years to come, Mayfield will be a cautionary tale for young QBs on how not to conduct oneself when no longer able to play well.

Whereas Jimmy G may be the opposite example: A QB with diminishing skills who is still valued because of his commitment to being a team player (and moisture farmer).

I'm still fascinated to know how this would have played out Watson not picked the Browns. I feel like Baker would have been gone either way ultimately.

The easy answer is "trade for Garoppolo", but I wonder if maybe they would have decided the price was too high for Jimmy and instead would have gone after one of the rookies in round 2.

I find it incredibly hard to believe that we'd get rid of one QB who isn't good enough just to latch onto another QB who isn't good enough.

The only way I see Garoppolo here was if he was the bridge guy to a younger QB. Right now, none of the QB's from this past draft are looking like they have the ability to be the guy in the future.

Its almost as if he wasn't the reason for winning that playoff game or going down to the wire against the Chiefs, and just happened to be on the roster (which I, and others, have said)...
