Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Giants were taking Mayfield at 2.

Not a guess, pretty sure they haven't even denied it publicly.

Waste of time, and mostly ignorant of the process teams go through to determine if players are the right cultural fit in their organization.

You don't just take a RB and then think all the QBs are the same so just pick one. That's nonsense.

Wait, are you saying scouting departments actually scout players and develop opinions, maybe even lists that have an order?

No way, I don't believe it.

While I'd argue that being a good "cultural fit" is not as important during the draft process for most teams, when your culture for the last twenty years has been, "joke of the NFL - perpetual losers - who would ever want to play in CLE?", finding a guy that can galvanize a locker room to rid itself of that loser group think is huge.

Baker by all accounts was that guy for us and one of the main reasons we coveted him compared to the other prospects.

While Darnold may have been the better physical prospect, he wouldn't have been able to corral a locker room after the firing of both the HC and OC his rookie year.

Playing Captain Hindsight, the only thing that made Darnold the better physical prospect was height. Arm strength, accuracy, escapeability in the pocket, strength, all seem to go to Baker.

I was a Darnold over Baker guy, so this is completely hindsight of course, which I am perfect on my in hindsight, but I think Dorsey even liked him physically better except the height thing.

I don't like this account. The Andrew Luck one was original and still funny. This one for Baker seems like a lame knockoff. Is it because he has a beard?

I never really bought into the idea of a "losing culture" that necessarily takes a long time to turn around. Athletes by their nature are optimistic, and even winning just one game can make you feel much better about the next game. You win a game, and your level of optimism shoots up. Leadership/culture comes in to play when you lose games, and how players respond mentally to that.

The Browns' culture changed sharply twice last first. First, when Baker started and won his first game, then second, when Hue was fired. From that moment on, the vibe and effect of a "winning culture" stayed with the team for the rest of the season, even when we lost games. The culture of the team shifted literally overnight, and due pretty much to Mayfield's leadership. That's just remarkable.

You know, I believed Rosen was by far the most polished prototypical prospect by far. Yes Bake had all the arm talent in the world, but The one thing that truly set Baker apart was his Desire, Leadership, Charisma, etc...How you could see his love for the game, Almost like a little kid again playing in the Sandlot. You could see How his team would run through a brick wall for him. All of it.

Thats what Makes Baker Truly Different. Thats why i Love the Farve Comparison. Yes, the Dangerous-gunslinger-whatever it takes to win-Leader.. But moreso, the kid that simply loves this Game. I See Baker playing long, i see Bake Always being "that guy". I see Bake getting up everytime even if slow after Taking a beating like Brett. He would go to war for his team and Cleveland.

Remember how the Kid got asked about going to Cleveland, instead of the Cliche "I just want a good fit/ ill be happy with anyone", he smiled an said He wanted Cleveland... He wanted to be the guy that turned our franchise back into what it once was.

That was the Difference Between Him and Rosen. That was the Difference that set him Apart from the rest. Thats the Difference that could make him a HOFer one day.. And thats the difference why our culture is finally turning around. (Dont forget Dorsey and Jarvis too!)

Football Guys.

...plus hes pretty sexy.
