Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He was 5/12 throwing in the second half.

Yes, and the majority of those passes were short timing passes with WR'ers he clearly doesn't have chemistry with yet. Now if we want to blame him for poor chemistry that's fine, but it's also a two way street.

What I see is smart throws and not forcing the ball into stupid windows with little chance of completion. He's not pressing and forcing the issue right now and seeing the field really well. After what we saw in the beginning of the year, that's a major improvement.

That Carlson throw was pretty stupid. He got bailed out hard my an acrobatic catch, but that throw had a pretty decent chance of resulting in a turnover which is pretty much the only outcome you can’t have there up 7 against an anemic offense

Depends.

The defender had his back to the QB and Baker put it in a pretty tough spot for the defender to turn around and make a play immediately. It was in the perfect spot for the TE and only the TE to make a play on it.

Similar to the Landry throw vs the Jets last year.

As I pointed out in the game thread Baker can't win.

We literally just went 10 pages about
him not throwing the ball up to obj who is being covered. But when he does go for it he gets accused of a "stupid" throw

Dude you and like one other person were the only ones who thought OBJ was covered on that play. Pretty much everyone else agreed he beat his man. The 10 pages were just arguing about whether he was covered or not.

the situations aren’t similar though. in one we needed a touchdown to win and in this one we needed a score to essentially ice the game.

Baker made a risky throw at a time where only a turnover could beat us.

I do think he takes much of the blame for timing (agreed, two way street), but you just said they were “safe” throws and now you’re saying they were timing throws.

He was largely ineffective in the game.

This point doesn’t seem arguable.

Did enough to win, as the defense accumulated four turnovers. But that was not efficient, and it was not good.

You’re calling that a dumb throw when he dimed that shit for a touchdown....

How about it was just a great fucking throw and an even better catch.

You throw a TD people bitch, you throw an incompletion people bitch, doesn’t matter what happens this guy is gonna get criticized by his own damn fan base just non fucking stop.

I’m so tired of this shit.

It’s just cringe as fuck when he makes a great throw for a TD in the back of the end zone after extending a play and people are calling it a “dumb throw”.

That’s such a yikes take.
Yikes on Troy Aikman then because he had the same take

dude just calm down. It’s not all a personal affront against Baker and you can disagree with someone without having an emotional outburst about it

You laugh about it when the receiver bails out Mayfield, and you just take the win. I’m not going to complain...

But pretending that was a great throw, lol.

C’mon.

Great to see Baker playing well. He’s starting to turn the corner, even despite underwhelming playcalling. Very pleased with him.

I was unsure at first, but it has become clear as day that coaching is far more a problem than Baker...which still sucks, but is far better than the alternative.

Get him adequate coaching next year and let’s get back to it.

I would never argue that it was an efficient night. However, they were safe timing throws. Short out routes and what not. Baker simply has poor timing with everyone right now and I don't know if it is more on Baker or the WR'ers. Hell, his best WR at the moment may be Hodge.

They should have pressed a little more in the 3rd quarter to end the game earlier but, cannot argue with the strategy when they won the game. And seeing as how the Steelers were on an extremely hot streak, I'll take what Baker gave me 10 times out of 10 against the Steelers.
