Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I admittedly do not go to other teams sites, reddits, or message boards but I can't imagine that there's any other team in the league that has so many people making excuses for their below average QB's.

Ball is in the air Chubb’s head is around like it’s supposed to, the problem is Chubb drifted up field instead of being flat. Little shit like this makes a huge difference in games. And are plays that keep you in short yardage. Everyone in this offense needs to be flat out better. Between the Oline, receivers TE’s and Baker. To blame 1 guy is just completely idiotic

He doesn’t catch this ball regardless of where he runs. By drifting, he extends the time the ball is available.

This is a gimmie throw, and Baker misses it. Bad route (I disagree) good route, doesn’t matter. This is a completed pass. XComp for this throw is probably over 90%.

Baker is provided a top ten eco-system for a QB to succeed, but hey, everyone ELSE needs to step up, too.

If he runs the right route the ball is right there. He literally drifted all the way to the 45 yard line. But keep going with the agenda that it’s all on Baker. Has Baker played great? No but the receivers have been just as bad with the drops, not running the correct routes etc. and that’s the point. It’s not all on Baker like you want to make it seem. The offense as whole is a huge issue right now. But the good thing is, it’s easily correctable and hopefully is after this bye week.

Do we have one of the top ten WR rooms? Top twenty?

”eco-system” LMGDMFAO. Yes, Baker as an elite running game around him, but how good are the pass receivers (RB, TE, WR)? How good is the pass blocking ? Because fairly evaluating Baker’s ability as a passer means evaluating those factors.

Baker has been inconsistent, injured and unreliable. Criticism of him is warranted. But let’s not pretend he’s got a nine-rated “eco-system“ around him. That dude’s model had him just below Mahomes, who has Tyrese Hill and Travis Kielce. We don’t have dudes that can sniff those guys jockstraps.

We have a considerably better line, and run game. This contributes to the ecosystem. If you swapped Mahomes to this team with the lack of weapons, we’d be 8-4, min.

Does it matter if Chubb wasn't where he was supposed to be on that play? Baker is not under any pressure and he has plenty of time to make a good throw but he doesn't.

If Chubb (we don't know for sure) ran the wrong route he ran the wrong route. Trying to blame Baker for the missed connection in that case is asinine. If Baker throws where Chubb is going and Chubb suddenly breaks outside then Baker would be blamed for an errant throw.

Look, we all know Baker has been bad this year. But that's no reason to blame him for EVERYTHING that goes wrong. You don't have to evaluate him with such a binary lens.

It’s not a timing route. This isn’t a “he wasn’t where he was supposed to be” issue.

Baker threw a bad pass. It’s Baker’s responsibility, from a clean pocket and limited coverage, to put the ball to Chubb.

I didn't say it was a timing route.

Let me ask you this... if Baker threw to where Chubb was drifting and Chubb suddenly flattened his route, is it Baker's fault that he didn't throw where he was supposed to? There's a defender driving on where Chubb is - if Chubb flattens, there's a chance for an interception there.

It was a bad throw. Why was Baker falling away while he threw that pass under no pressure? It lacked touch and the ball placement was poor.

It was a bad throw.

Looks right on the money to me

Sigh it’s bc the ball was designed to go to Chubb quick in the flat. It’s literally his first read. Obviously getting the ball to Chubb right out of his break gives him the opportunity to pick up YAC instead a late throw the LB has plenty of time to close in on Chubb for only a 2 yard gain. Not everything is Bakers fault as much as you want it to be.

Not sure how anyone can watch that Ravens game or most of Baker's games this season and react that he's giving enough. That KS's playcalling and receivers are the real issue when the situation is almost identical to that 10 game run from last year.

The difference has been Baker. He raises the performance of the receivers and makes KS look like an absolute genius when he's playing up to his potential.

The injuries could influence his play some, but by all accounts he seems healthy enough to go and the bad play doesn't appear to be health related. Getting some of the best looks that he will get in his career with defenses stacking the box like everytime.

The defensive strategy is begging him to throw and execute consistently. Vertically and in the intermediate passing game, Mayfield should be feasting on this coverage. Instead he hesistates, misses throwing windows, and doesn't anticipate pressure/recievers getting open. Taking putrid sacks and speeding up for no reason in a clean pocket.

Any change has gotta come from him or we're doomed in this next Ravens game. If fucking Ryan Tannehill can play average in a run-first offense, then why can't Baker?

The point is it’s a combination of a lot of things not just Baker. Yes Baker needs to be a lot better. But other parts of the offense haven’t been very good either. Dropping balls, penalties, pass protection at times, not running routes correctly, Baker not making throws or panicking in the pocket. It’s a combination of everything not just Baker like people make it out to be.
