Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Didn't say I think it's likely. But yes, that's what I want to hope for.
It's very likely to happen. I'll be stunned if it doesn't happen. He will need the team to draft a true number one receiver in the first round and he needs the starting tackles to stay healthy as well.

Baker was not good enough in 2020? JFC. Ranked top 3 over a 12 week period ending the season. When healthy, the man can ball out. People with blinders on...everywhere in this thread.
When everything around him is right he can ball out. He needs to be carried.

4 years in is enough. He's not consistetly good at all. Just simply not good enough...

Well not good enough to be a contender. If the goal is 8 wins, 9 wins etc. OK could be the guy. That guy will never take a team to the superbowl..

So taking the team on his shoulders in 2020 to the brink of the AFC title game isn't good enough for you. And a blown helmet to helmet no call was the primary reason that the goal wasn't achieved that year You Baker haters have short memories.

Or how about if he just played better and won the game without needing that call ? Chad Henne was the QB on the other side for goodness sakes…

I see a serviceable QB. I don’t see an elite one… Definitely not a Super Bowl QB

Out of curiosity- In the final 12 games (playoffs, 10 regular season) how many wins do you think we’re firmly on Baker’s play? Like, games where he was the reason they won.

I have two.

That was a good season. But he blew it this year by insisting on playing hurt to the detriment of winning games, and making the playoffs. Baker blew it, Stefanski blew it, Berry blew it, it was a collective failure and they all had a hand in it.

Baker should have sat and healed up instead of doing the macho tough-guy bit and that poor judgement can be shared by all of the above. We would have won the same number of games with Keenum, and Baker could have returned to hopefully lead the team in the stretch run and playoffs with better success.

Now whether you like it or not a big part of the fan base has a sour taste about Baker's viability as a top level QB, because we can't ignore what he did on the field, hurt or not hurt. He was indecisive, when he did make decisions a lot of them were very poor. He double and triple clutched when he should have been getting the ball out. He scrambled when he should have thrown, and he threw when he should have scrambled. Just a really horrible performance by him, injury or no injury. He HURT the team by continuing to play below average when just average performance would have put us in the playoffs.

So yes Baker has a huge hill to climb to get back any level of trust from myself and a lot of other fans of the Browns. I'm not ASSUMING he can or cannot do anything, he gets one more chance to show us who and what he really is. I'll believe he's good as you seem to think he is, but only after he shows it over a long and significant sample size that needs to be more than one season. I said before the last few games it was time for Baker to put up or shut up, and as of now he needs to shut up until he proves himself to be much better. Ball out and earn a chance to continue to prove he's a longer term solution for success. Fuck things up again and the franchise has to move on to the next candidate.

You could argue 3 and almost a 4th with the Baltimore game. I would say cinci, Giants, Titians games

It’s just interesting that the people who are not believing in Baker are with the majority of people who watch him with no vested interest in him whatsoever….

You can literally watch this guy and clearly see he doesn’t have it and it’s not even physically… Forget his shoulder — at the NFL level he is not a high IQ player at the position…. Who would literally want to defend a QB that can’t even identify this play and situation ? This is like JaMarcus Russell level of stupidity…. His mental is as limited as his physical…

Please stop hyperbolizing and making up fairy tales about “taking the team on his shoulders.”

You folks sound absolutely ridiculous.

Definitely 3, my bad. I forgot the Giants absolutely wrecked the run game.

So 1/4. In Baker’s BEST streak of play, his play is why we won 3 games.

That’s sort of the point (and I’m not teeing of in you, Bkerr!) a lot of us make. In his BEST season, he still wasn’t why we won. The scheme sets this team up for tremendous success.

To be fair, when you have an offensive line as good as ours that year and the RBs, the QB (unless Mahomes or Rodgers) likely isn't going to be the reason the team wins most of the time. Baker played well in quite a few of those games but he was outshined by CHUNT being CHUNT.

Social media is nice in that there's a lot of great analysis but you also get "QB looked bad on this one play...QB is bad!" wayyyy too much.

That’s just inexcusable…. There is literally not one thing anyone can say to defend the lack of intelligence on that play….

Horrendous

You're not a Browns fan if you spend all off-season talking up this guy as Baker's replacement. Just a shit stirrer.
