Indians second baseman Ron Belliard was apparently healthy enough for the Cardinals.

Despite only returning to action on Saturday after almost a week on the sidelines, Belliard has been traded to St. Louis in exchange for infielder Hector Luna, FOXSports.com has learned.

Belliard, 31, recently missed six games with a hamstring injury, but returned to the Indians' lineup Saturday. The Cardinals wanted to make sure that he was fully recovered before completing the deal. Belliard started in the Indians' 7-3 loss to the Mariners Sunday, going 2-for-4 in the process.

Well this is fun..

Yawn

dime a dozen player with an expiring contract. We found him on the garbage heap used him a few years and now gone.

Too bad none of the guys we trade are good enough to get a future player of value in return

well i don't think you want to trade grady, travis, C.C, or sowers do you??? those are about the only ones that will bring back "value".

Yea baby....:headbang:

Another fat ass gone... We've lost some serious weight on this team within the last week..

Nah but I get the feeling CC and Travis will be moved in a what 2 years when the contracts are about to expire. Wonder if we can build a contender that quickly.

Gonna take some big luck.

whatever makes u think that mixed i would love to hear about.

Yeah Haf and CC are gone for sure in a few years. The big market teams will bitch slap Dolan and swoop up and take CC and Hafner and they will become mediocre...well Hafner will but CC is already there.

cc is mediocore?sure he has been a little inconsistent, but mediocore is jake westbrook.CC is not mediocore, last game he gave up 0 runs through 5 but got no run support.then slipped up in the 6th and gave up 3 but come on man mediocore?

He was labeled the Ace and is nowhere near that. Jake is closer to his role then CC is to being an Ace..

I am glad we have CC

I just have a hard time believing Dolan will offer competitive money to CC or Hafner once they are FA.

I think the plan is sign guys through their arbitration years and if you can a year or two of FA. Then when they get there if they are good you trade them for prospects and hope you have developed players to replace them.

I dont see Indians payroll ever hitting 70 million whild Dolan is the owner. Yes he did have one year of big payroll before he could rip the team apart. But that was beyond his control.

I think it would take a much better GM than Shapiro to win with the restrictions he is under. Some of the writers have been brave enough to write this as well.

We need to find that window like Florida did and win a championship and then break up the team for prospects. And then make trades to have enough players be ready in the same year or two when the window is open.

The initial rebuild failed, whether we rebuild completely again for 5 years or try and sneak in another run while CC and Hafner are still here will be an interesting decision.

I dont expect Shapiro to be much longer.

Haf will be something like 32 when his deal ends....we dont have an owner that will spend money to improve the team so they will be gone and we will get a ton of prospects in return and we will be waiting to win again.

Well, just said goodbye to Ronnie in person. He's on the 1240 flight to STL and ran into him here at Hopkins. Already sporting the Cardinal red shirt and blank red hat. Shook his hand and said see ya back here next year. He grinned.

HAHA Thats funny Pilot. Although I doubt he will be making his way back here. In all honesty the deal made sense but I will definatly miss Ronnie. I liked watching that guy and despite all the hate he got he was a very solid player for us. I now hope that either the Cards or yikes, the Braves win the Ship now so that one of these two can get their ring.

Good trade. Even though Ronnie liked Cleveland with all the competition and us not being in contention we probably wouldn't have resigned him. Happy to see the friendly words about Cleveland though.

Belliard was an ok player for us. The deal made sense. This team going nowhere and he was a free agent. Pretty much a given you trade away your FA to be players after your out of the race and someone will offer something that has any value for them.

Not excited about Luna, but Luna is better than nothing, which we would have had once Belliard was a FA.
