Belliard a Cardinal

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'll miss Ronnie in Cleveland to be honest... I really liked his game and how he always came out and competed, no matter the circumstance... Especially with his flashy defensive plays every now and then..

Although, this move made some sense.. With Ronnie being a FA in the summer, I doubt Dolan will pay arounf 5-6 mil for a middle tier 2nd baseman.. Especially with his defense not being the greatest, and the Indians already have a problem defensively at SS.. It is also good nonetheless to get some value for him instead of letting him walk for nothing..

All in all, I guess this wasn't that bad of a trade... We get a versatile utility player who will play solid defense.. I just hoped we could of got a little more..

He was an All Star, def more than an OK player.

Makes a lot of sense, trading an everyday 2nd basemen for a not everyday 2nd basemen. We don't need another utility player when Boone just took on that role. At least get a minor league prospect then a major league clingon.

Luna appears ready to put up about the same numbers as Belliard and is supposed to be a better defender.

With Belliard a FA this was an easy to rate good move by the Indians. Belliard was at best an average second baseman.

sometimes the difference between being a starter and backup is which team you are on or just opportunity.

We picked Belliard up off the garbage heap and he had some good years for us. Not great but solid.

We had to keep his contract short and would not give him multiple years because in the past he let himself get out of shape and lazy when he had one.

Sorry if you think some teams dont have young players in back up roles that have more talent than starters on other teams there is little I can say to explain this concept. I bet a few teams have better 3rd basemen in the minors than Boone and better starters than Byrd. Bu according to your logic Boone would be better because he is a starter, same for Byrd. Sorry it really is pretty illogical.

Luna and Belliard are very similar in talent level and Belliard was a FA. No brainer to pull the trigger on this deal. Something for nothing.
