Always fun to go down Memory Lane. Just some "sports bests".
Best sports moment: Ohio State beats Miami National Champions
Pretty self explanatory, I’ve always put a national championship above everything else, and the fact that I had the privilege to live through one weighs heavy on my heart. I can remember so many things about that night. Clarett’s take away after the INT, McGahee’s knee, and of course overtime. I was standing behind my couch from the 4th quarter on, knees shaking thinking “We could be #1 in college football. National Champions Win the Title. For you OSU fans, did you realized we had two 4th downs in the first overtime period? Amazing. But the feeling that I got when the ball was knocked down after Cie Grant rushed Dorsey and Ohio State became National Champions is something I will never forget, and something that lives inside of me still today. I can’t explain it, but I love it.
Best game seen live: Green v Barberton
High school basketball. 23cavsfan23 you’ll know this one. Green and Barberton have become basketball rivals because they beat us last year. The fact that his kid hits the last shot was truly unbelievable. I can still see it going in, going crazy, storming the court and hugging kids I didn’t even know. Here’s an article I wrote for the Suburbanite on it:
Best games on TV: Ohio State beats Miami, Ohio State beats UM 05 and Cavs v Washing game 5.
Obviously, the OSU national title game is up there. Both of the last UM OSU games. There’s so much passion that goes into that rivalry anytime a game is close it’s put up there. Watching that Smith to Gonzo play was unbelievable. Obviously this years was legendary before kickoff. And last years game 5 is up there. Listen to the crowd I get chills every time.
Best comeback: Indians and Mariners
I don’t remember too much about this game for some reason but I remember thinking “no way” over and over again. First, Omar’s triple to set it up, then Jolbert Cabrera hit a looper into LF and Kenny Lofton coming full speed in his bright red sleeves and beating the throw.
Best sports movie: Remember the Titans, Field of Dreams
Best sports movie comedy: Major league, Caddy Shack
Best sports song: Cleveland Rocks, Tessie, centerfield
Biggest feeling of chills dealing with sports: Ohio State marching band, James vid, Major League Wild Thing
Every time I go to an OSU game I get chills when the band comes out. The way the crowd reacts is amazing. Also for some reason when Rick Vaughn comes out in Major League to Wild Thing by X playing I get chills all the way down my back. Finally, in We Are Marshall when the whole town is chanting….good stuff.
Favorite SHUT UP moment: James against Chicago, Washington.
No idea why no one remembers, but last year Cleveland played at Chicago. The fans started jeering LBJ (Bron vs Jordan) and then James missed a dunk, and the fans started clapping and stuff. Well we stole the ball and gave it to LBJ at midcourt with only one guy to beat, and James beat him to the hole and dunked it home…silence. And of course game 5 against Washington again.
Favorite moment at a live game: green vs Barberton
(see above)
Most nervous: Friday before OSU UM game 06
#1 vs. #2…chance to play for national title…..OSU vs UM. Yeah, I was a little nervous. With a undershirt, jersey, and hoodie my heart felt like I was topless. I actually got yelled at by some girls for taking it so seriously.
Favorite moment not at a game: meeting Archie Griffen
Greatest home run: Manny 491 footer in Toronto, Cecil Fielder over the roof in Detriot
Greatest defensive baseball play: Omar 97 WS
This was to save atleast one run. I remember having to jerk my head because he dove so far for such a little guy to get this ball. He then fires to 1B for the out. The newspaper clipping of him doing that is currently above my bed.
Greatest shot NBA: Sean Elliot, Jordan final shot, Z 3 at PHO.
I don't remember who it was against, but Sean Elliot's fadeway in the playoffs after having to have a kidney transaplant. Amazing story. I remember the place going insane when he hit that shot. Jordans last shot as a Bull, of course, and Z's 3 to tie the game against PHO. Who besides the Lord himself saw that one coming?
Greatest football play: Maurice Clarett 02 NC game
Taking the ball from Taylors hands after a pick and saving momentum. Amazing from a Freshman RB.
Thoughts?
