You can get charged a ball if you take more than 12 seconds?

What's up with this rule? I've never heard of it before!

Link to Story

Seems like the Tigers are pretty desperate to beat the Tribe, since we were 4-0 against them at Comerica until yesterday's game.

That was complete BS, thankfully it didn't end up hurting us. That home plate umpire was awful.

That was probably the biggest load of BS ever.. Earlier this year Leyland tried to argue that Betancourt was balking...He probably complained about it before he came in.

Right call, people complain about the games being to long, this is why rules like this are put in place. Its like the 10 second rule or whatever it is in basketball when your on the feethrow line.

In basketball people still take longer, they don't actually count that 10 seconds.

Its the right call if and only if they start enforcing it for everyone. Kenny Rogers was timed the game after the Betancourt call and took well over 15 seconds on almost every pitch. Did the umps call a ball on him? Of course not. Why? Because he is a veteran who gets the respect of the umpires. Its complete BS to have rules being enforced only in certain circumstances.

Its the same thing with the back of the batter's box. Its a rule that you arent allowed out of it, but yet in the first inning of every game the leadoff man brushes all of the chalk away so no one can see it. Once every so often a player gets called for being out of the box and all hell breaks loose. (Being a Boston fan you should well remember the Carl Everett blow up over this) Why? Not because thats a rule, but because its a rule that is never enforced.

It only shows that the Detroit coaching staff was complaining about it, and if thats the best way they can try to beat Betancourt then more power to them. Oh and Pudge also complained that Hafner was out of the box on the catcher interference call, even though he and the rest of the Tigers do the exact same thing. Bunch of punks.

Must be something in the water in Detroit - both the Pistons and Tigers are a bunch of whiny bitches.

The problem was the batter was stepping in and out of the box, and the stopwatch kept going...That happened the first ball. He wasn't in the box the entire 15 seconds....
