Re: The Brandon Weeden Thread
Man... when I saw the Ravens deal Boldin I thought they were fucking insane.
They were.
Since I can remember following and rooting for this team I cannot think of a single wide out who was first string worthy. Josh Gordon may or may not be that receiver but I haven't seen enough on the field to even validate that yet. His off the field behavior is enough to have me worried. At least we made the attempt at Braylon but he ended up being garbage.
When you have a receiver who can go after a ball (whether it's thrown poorly or not) and make a play that is when you have talent. We don't even have a receiver who can get separation let alone go for jump balls. We have not had that in at least 10 years plus and a guy like Boldin can change the dynamic of a game. I think this year we are going to to finally come to terms with the truth and that truth is we don't have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball. We never have. Pat Shurmur is responsible for a shit ton of horrible game management decisions, not denying that, but he is not responsible for the entire offensive scheme. He probably saw what most coaches see in this offense, a lack of talent. The point is I can't completely admit that Weeden was ever set up to succeed. If you watched the game then you would know there was very little separation from their corners and our receiving core.
I dislike Weeden for a multitude of reasons but the very most important reason is that he is immobile and his entire mentality is finding an open reciever that he just doesn't have. He plays scared. Frankly, I don't think he has the accuracy to throw into double coverage and if someone isn't completely wide open then he simply can't make a proper decision. When I say he's immobile, I'm saying he's less mobile than perhaps any quarterback I've ever seen. He's literally playing street football predicated on his "big arm". His arm hasn't shown me a single time that he can throw accurately in a tight window on big plays. He gets picked. He's overthinking and if you're overthinking after 17 games then you are going to be continuously overthinking. If he was halfway mobile he would have avoided at least 3 of those sacks. This guy doesn't even roll out under pressure as he is too busy staring down some receiver who is being humped by CB's as soon as that ball is hiked.
Weeden is target practice for any defense in this league.
