Brendan Haywood's Trade Exception

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wonder if a team we were in trade talks with wanted Osman? Maybe not.

Celtics drafted Rozier. They have to pay Crowder to keep him and drafted RJ Hunter.

Trade Bradley and Turner for Haywood and Harris/Miller (and Osman or Kaun?).

Not thrilled about Turner but he's young and on a good contract. Or we could flip him to a 3rd team like the Nuggets and get Wilson Chandler.

Pretty much my dream trade right now. Which is basically the same as the dream trade I said like 2 weeks ago.

Interesting idea but Wilson Chandler is not the guy I would like but if it is our only hope yeah do it. I have no idea what the Celtics are doing and if they think Love alone with that core can win the a title they are full of it. If have to sign and trade Love there for whatever stupid idiotic reason. I must come out with Smart and Sullinger and a future first or no deal.

So, at this point, it's anybody but Olynyk. Hope he only sets foot in CLE as a sex slave to sweaty big 7-foot muscled men.

Agreed. I don't ever see that guy as a Cavalier after what he did last season

Figured it was worth pointing out that the Cavs probably won't do anything with Haywood's contract until they know what Love is doing. Their roster needs change dramatically if Love leaves.

It will be surprising if the Pacers can snag a real asset for Hibbert. Few teams in the new NBA are starved for cap relief, and that has sucked away most of the trade value that expiring contracts once carried. Everyone will have room when the cap skyrockets next summer, and most contracts under the new collective bargaining agreement are so short, teams can see their expiration date from the moment they are signed.

Interesting tidbit that can give some insights into Haywood's market.

So basically we're going to get nothing worthwhile for Haywood. I'm not having a good feeling about this off season at all. Doesn't look like we're going to be able to add to many more pieces at all and might actually lose someone like Smith.

As an expiring contract, Hibberts contract would be cap relief for NEXT year, when the cap goes up 21 million dollars all at once to 87 million total

Haywood deal, as a completely non guaranteed deal, is cap relief/room instantly, this summer, when the cap is just rising from the 63 million of last year to about 66-67 million this summer.

So those are two totally different things. There are absolutely some aggressive teams this summer who are trying to create room to add a MAX or close to max FA to their roster. Teams like this are thought to include: Houston, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Sacramento. Their are other teams like Denver and Boston who have some positional gluts or players they want to get rid of to help start the rebuild.

Opportunity is there in the next month to take advantage of teams that want to create space for this summer or teams on the rebuild or with positional gluts

Boston for example: Isaiah Thomas, Marcus Smart, Terry Rozier, Avery Bradley, James Young, RJ Hunter, Evan Turner. Thats 7 guys all drafted or acquired in the last 12 months w the exception of Bradley. One or two of those guys might be able to be traded for.

Milwaukee has a similar glut: MCW, Greivis Vazquez, Tyler Ennis, Rashad Vaughn, OJ Mayo, Jerryd Bayless, Khris Middleton(who they want to keep).

Haywood's contract is infinitely more valuable than an expiring contract. His is instant cap/(and more importantly) monetary relief.

That being said, we could do nothing besides resign our entire roster from last year, and we're still a heavy title contender(even if we lose Smith.

Good problem to have.

Yes but then we still don't have a legit backup for James. We really do need to snag one somewhere or somehow.

Naa. Its essential to have one scorer on the bench. So, JR or at least another scorer/ball handler would be vital.

We lost the NBA finals in 6 games with no Irving or Love.

Something tells me that adding those guys and subtracting J.R. Smith won't change the fact that we can absolutely win a title with that roster.

Also something to remember---Tristan and Kyrie and even Shump are all pretty young and can all improve a lot next year which would be a huge boost just by virtue of not having to do anything besides grow organically.

Not to mention Mozzy is pretty young. This team healthy, and having another year together to work out some kinks is an obvious title contender.

Haywood's contract is fantastic IF there are a lot of teams trying to make cap room. We can't just look at this years big free agent fish (Gasol, Love, Aldridge, LBJ) as players that teams could be looking at clearijg cap for.

If there's a guy like TT, just as an example, teams will be willing to overpay for guys like him, who are borderline good players. With the cap going so far up, getting a guy this year with an overpay, could be a legit strategy for teams. Some teams could be very interested in clearing space to make huge offers for good role players.
