Gotta feeling it'll just be the TPE dump with Philly, LA, or Minny.
Makes more sense to have that as an asset through the season.
Well this is a different scenario than most salary dumps. Haywood doesn't cost anything to the team taking him. He can be waived for nothing. No 2016 pick to pair with it in a potential trade, which complicates matters, as does the huge increase in the cap in 2016, making salary dumps less likely, but it will have some value through next July. Regardless of the cap situation, some team will find they need to clear $10-13M. Or will have buyer's remorse from this summer.
As far as the Clippers doing a sign and trade for a viable center like Koufos, what do they have of any value that would entice Memphis (or another team) to do that? Jamal Crawford is really the only player on their roster that they could conceivably use for this purpose, but who would want him?
You know, I don't think the Cavs have missed any opportunities so far with the Haywood chip. The Splitter trade to Atlanta is the closest thing to a missed opportunity, and I really didn't see a need for Splitter here. I mostly viewed him as a solid player with value who could potentially be flipped for a better fit.

because Memphis is overflowing with backcourt talent? Memphis could actually use a bench scorer like Crawford. I just shake my head at people who believe teams will dump even semi-useful talent on the Cavs rather than do a S&T.
When the Cavs used the Celtics Bogans non-guaranteed it was to clear room for LeBron and netted Zeller. Not sure how much that happens this late in FA...
EDIT: I guess I just don't see why they want another 35+ year old wing.
Nick Calathes is your alternative who looks more like an accountant than a ballplayer
The Zeller deal and the Bogans deal were two separate trades.because Memphis is overflowing with backcourt talent? Memphis could actually use a bench scorer like Crawford. I just shake my head at people who believe teams will dump even semi-useful talent on the Cavs rather than do a S&T.

Zeller was part of the salary dump of Jack on July 10th.
On September 25th the Cavs dealt John Lucas III, Erik Murphy, Dwight Powell, and Malcom Thomas to the Celtics for Bogans.
Then on September 27th, the Cavs traded Bogans to Philly for us to create the TPE that eventually allowed us to absorb Mozzy.
Interesting that you compare Calathes to an accountant in view of the apparent need in Greece for one.
