Browns at Commanders - 1/1/23

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Where are the don't go for it on 4th down people? Where are the explosive plays are bad people? Stefanski gets cute and sometimes calls dumb plays on fourth down but nobody seems to give the Browns any credit when they hit the fourth down plays....
Funny what playing smart, executing (at least in the second half), and winning will do.

When the team does moronic things, I'll be the first to call them out (and I know you weren't saying anyone specifically). But if you think many people are going to be swarming into the game thread at the end of a lost season to tell Stefanski how great he's doing, it's not going to happen.

Do it when it matters and you'll see praise on top of praise.

Watson finally looked like the QB we gave up the farm for.

Delpit looked like a pro-bowler today after looking like a Div III player much of the year.

This thread is a lot quieter when people aren’t complaining about Stefanski and running the ball moar… :chuckle:

So many fans saying they won’t complain this week because Stefanski called a great 2nd half. And I’m over here rolling my eyes.

I didn’t see Stefanski do anything differently than usual. We just had players execute. Something that has failed to happen too often this season.

Whatever…gonna be nice to not have to hear all the misplaced bitching and moaning for a week.

IMO Stefanski called a shitty first half in the limited number of plays we had (15). The routes were slow developing and the pass protection did not allow enough time for receivers to come open. The run game was working but then in the red zone we benched Chubb and ended up failing to score touchdowns.

But seeing KS make effective adjustments in the second half that then were well executed by the players was an extremely positive thing, something that has rarely happened all season. There was a good mix of run/pass, play action helped negate the rush, the routes came open quickly, Watson got rid of the ball quickly, and there were some nice run options that got us some tough yards against a tough defense. Watson showed his talent in throwing receivers open which helped the YAC, and Watson ran effectively when we needed it. We stuck with the run enough to force Washington to respect it, which helped slow the rush.

That shows growth and potential, things that have been in short supply this season. So, credit where credit is due. Watson and Stefanski might be meshing well and that bodes well for the future.

The difference is that we won. Plain and simple.

Those people have never been able to actually critique the process. They bitch about bad results, and then infer that the process must be bad, but are unable to articulate why. They don't know the specifics, they just pick a target and go with it--most recently Stefanski.

There were what, 2 full pages of people bitching and moaning about Stefanski because Kareem Hunt was in the game? Every one of those posters should be locked inside a playpen and curtailed off from GenPop until they figure out the basics of football. Every 30 days, ask them who makes position group substitutions and if they get it right, they can rejoin the population of this website.

It's all emotion and knee jerk reactions and it sucks.

The Commanders were fighting for their playoff lives and we absolutely curb stomped them while still playing poorly. There are massive, completely unacceptable holes out there that need to be fixed if we want to achieve our goals in 2023, but the head coach isn't anywhere near the top of that list.

This is pretty much how I feel about it.

There are things Stefanski has done in particular since Watson returned that I have not liked, especially how much they've run the ball on 1st and 10 and 2nd and 10.

But for the most part the offensive scheme is sound.

The vast majority of the offensive plays, good or bad, simply come down to how well the players execute what's called. There are some small things here and there where the might ask guys to do things they really can't do or the call route concepts that end up on top of each other, but those are a small minority compared to just poor execution.

Now defensively? That's a different story.
