Browns get rules lesson

Have fun.

But don’t take it too far when celebrating a touchdown.

That’s the theme of one of the more high-profile rule changes by the NFL heading into the 2006 season.

The Browns are hearing about that change and others as they receive their annual visit from NFL officials touring all of the various training camps in the league. The officials arrived Wednesday and will stay through Friday. They will work the practices and help get the players re-acclimated to how the games will be called.

Also as part of their visit, the officials met the media following Wednesday morning’s practice to explain the changes.

According to side judge Rick Patterson, who acted as the officials’ spokesman during the session with the media, the league is not trying to halt the post-TD celebrating.

“It’s part of the game,” Patterson said. “It’s spontaneous. But what the league doesn’t want is guys getting onto the ground as part of their routine, or using props such as pylons or Sharpies.”

Players like Chad Johnson took it too far last season with the celebrations. Not that they are bad. It’s just that maybe they went a little overboard although I did love them. They were very entertaining.

Chad said that he is trying to find a way on how to take his celebrations to a new level while trying to keep it inside the new rules.

To say the least….It will be interesting to watch. I can’t wait.
