Browns sign RB Carlos Hyde

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I like the new threads for new signings. Gives me a chance to see who the Browns add without going through 50 pages of people commenting 1 or 2 word post.

That or just create a thread that is updated with every new move and only MoFlo or any other mod edits and it stays locked.

On this move itself - love the addition. Even more since he's a Buckeye, obviously.

Would hope Joe Thomas returns and we can have a better outlook on the line, but it looks like he will be the feature back here with us mixing in Duke Johnson here and there as the explosive weapon. Even run two back sets, too.

I think we should start a separate thread to discuss if each free agent should be a separate thread.

Two thumbs up from me. I don't want us to draft Barkley at 1 or even 4, as enticing as he is. It's just not a smart move for this franchise.

Especially since Guice from LSU will be available hopefully in the early 2nd round, or if they end up trading the 4th pick with Buffalo to get #'s 12, and 22 they could then snag Guice at #22. IMO not much difference between Guice and Barkley. You also couldn't go wrong with Ronald Jones from USC, or Penny from SD State, and even Sonny Michel from Georgia. All I consider Stud backs.

I think Jerrick McKinnon is underrated, but he got 4 yrs $30m from the 49ers so maybe not so much anymore. Not sure on the guarantees of that deal or the Hyde deal, but wow I'd much rather have Hyde at half the price.

You would need to fill out a TPS report to do that. I can work on a cover sheet for you if need be?

P.S. - no pipe dream here of the Browns even being a .500 team this year, but I do really, really like the approach of the front office so far. Smart moves.

May not be perfect moves, and they are certainly not pleasing to everyone in the fan base, but I really like their approach. If anything, they are adding pieces so they don't have to reach for a position in the draft.

Plus, in terms of possibly being a trading partner, other teams had no idea a few weeks ago which players the Browns might be targeting... and now, they REALLY don't!

Two thumbs up for me so far. Come on Joe...one more year buddy! One more year! (Or two :biggrin new: )

I agree. Despite signing Hyde, we should still be looking for a stud young back in the draft. Plenty of carries for both, and the Hyde signing means we won't be left hanging if the stud RB we like isn't there when we pick.

This signing is completely consistent with Dorsey's pattern of plugging holes so that we aren't forced to draft for particular position need during the draft.

@BimboColesHair

What do you think of this deal?

You didn't get a Donte Whitner jersey?

Was never a huge Whitner fan, and I couldn't find his jersey anyways.

Pryor was one big year and done here, and Hartline was kinda awful.

Hyde is coming in off a pretty good year with the Niners and will likely be our RB1 for the next season, AND is one of my favorite Buckeyes ever.

Was thinking this as well. This would be such a dynamic setup as both are good WRs out of the backfield as well.

Mix in Tyrod's ability to run and the possibilities are endless.

The ability for Hyde to be used as a blocking fullback adds alot to a 2 back set. He is listed anywhere between 230-240 pounds. Crow and Duke are listed at 190-200. He use to set some huge blocks for QBs at Ohio State. Hyde is just a better all around back than Crow. He is an upgrade at pretty much every aspect of being a RB.

He is a great pairing with Duke. Play calling will be less predictable because they are both well rounded. Hopefully we will see Duke run the ball on early downs more to keep the defense of their toes.

Last Jersey I bought was Eric Turner

True story.
Evan Moore for me. Always a good conversation starter for those that remember him.

Evan Moore?

I dont think even Evan Moore owned a Browns jersey.

Why the fuck did you get and Even Moore jersey?

Last one I bought was a signed Wali Ranier at a charity auction for $35 because I felt badly nobody was bidding. He was traded the very next day.

Obviously, I don't buy much gear....

I want to hear this full story right now.

Same reason I own a Jawad Williams jersey. He became a running meme among friends.

I remember his first game in 2009 he had 80 yards. Not bad for a guy we had just signed off the streets. I told all my buddies I thought Evan Moore was a guy to keep an eye on for the 2010 season, since he was our leading receiver at TE that year despite only playing 5 games. They all said he wouldn't even make it out of training camp. I would jokingly respond that it is no coincidence we went on a 4 game winning streak after we signed him. He made the roster and from that point on every time he caught a pass, even if it was for like 6 yards, I made sure to point it out and gloat to them. I bought a jersey after he signed an extension and we all thought it was funny. We all reunite to go to one Browns game a year and I wear that Evan Moore jersey. My friends still shake their heads every time they see it and we get a good laugh.
