Boeckman has a long way to go to be compared to Krenzel yet. For all of Krenzel's physical shortcomings, he was as smart of a QB as you'll ever find. There was no one else I wanted the ball in the hands of on 3rd and long or 4th and short. Krenzel's play that year was completely underrated because he wasnt the flashiest of guys, but he always did whatever it took to win. Boeckman may well perform well this season, but to expect anything close to a Krenzel like season out of him is setting him up for failure.
As for the comparison to the championship team, you left off a VERY key part to that team, perhaps the most important part even, and that was the special teams. Nugent was the best kicker we've ever had, Gamble was one of the best return men we've ever had although we've since had one who was better, and our punter (brain fart) was top flight as well. That 02 team was all about field position dont forget that. This year's team will need some major help in this area as well.
All in all Im not that worried about the Buckeyes this year, as I hardly ever am. After every season we look at everyone we lost and start freaking out the next season over how hard it will be to replace those guys. Then we get to know and love the new guys and realize they are right on par for the most part with the guys who left. Prime example of that was Hawk leaving and then Laurinitis coming in and nearly matching Hawk's performance. We are one of the top recruiting teams in the nation, there will always be a blue chip replacement, and with Tressel running the show, Im never worried about the Buckeyes talent level. Whether they manage to execute on the field is another story.
