'Canes Football In Deep Sh*t

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Wow.

Miami Basketball is fucked up a creek without paddle. Miami football is still going to get screwed but not as bad as the Miami basketball program.

Can we now please admit that every major program does this?

Just because Miami got busted harder doesn't mean programs like Ohio State, USC, Florida, etc. don't give the same illegal benefits to their players.

Anyone who doesn't agree is naive.

End of the day players getting paid, getting free cars, etc. doesnt change how they do on the field. On don't give me the "they'd be ineligible" crap.

Really? Boosters straight up pay kids thousands of dollars, buy them prostitutes, and take them on expensive yacht trips everywhere? Whenever a scandal breaks theres always the obligatory "this stuff happens everywhere" comment, but this is just so, so, over the top.

Take a "dirty" program like Ohio State. Would the teams star players be selling priceless memorabilia for a little money and fucking tatoos if they had anything like this going on?

That's cool and all but I would like a recap. I don't care enough to read it but I'm curious enough to care.

This short statement by the ex-girlfriend of the booster named Shapiro sums things up nicely:

It’s all true,” said one of Shapiro’s ex-girlfriends, who asked to remain anonymous out of fear of reprisals from former Miami players. “He took care of them. What does that mean? It has a lot of meanings. He took care of them by giving cash to make sure they had stuff. He took care of them whenever they wanted to go party. He took care of them by getting them laid. He took care of them if they needed a place to stay. Whatever they needed, at that moment they needed it, Nevin would provide it. Whether it was sex, money, meals, a new TV, if their mother needed something, if they needed a new ring or some jewelry – whatever they needed, Nevin would provide it.”

And Shapiro’s justification for his actions? He said it was simple.

“I did it because I could,” he said. “And because nobody stepped in to stop me.”

:chuckles:

My rough estimation, and I am giving a lowball figure here, is that these allegations, if proven true (which there seems to be tons of evidence), are 100 times worse than what OSU was accused of and found true.

Heck, if all of the stuff that OSU was accused of and NOT found true were indeed found true, this would still be close to 100 times worse.

Ignoring the fact that bounties for injuries exsist, let's say your right, and these superfluous gifts do not affect how a person plays.

That doesn't change the fact that it has the possibility of affecting where a person plays. This is what the NCAA doesn't want to happen. A bidding war over college athletes? Can you imagine?

And to the people who say that "if you allowed players to get paid you could regulate it." That will never happen. If you give athelets 100 dollars they will want 200, then 400, etc. and then the college athletics department goes bankrupt.

You need to look at who you're dealing with and realize these kids don't think like the rest of us. The team's success obviously never meant anything to them. If you had something valuable that you didn't care about why wouldn't you sell it for money? Regardless of what your income is.

Another example would be a professional athlete making 12 million a year and then holding out of training camp because he wants 13 million. You would think that 12 million is plenty but in their eyes it isn't.

they already are. all but the top 20 or so athletic programs in college are losing money. its not anyone's fault but the players they arent taking advantage of a FREE education. most of these full rides are worth at least 15k a year for 4-5 years, and most colleges are more than that

I already said this and b00bie has been in denial since the Clarrett situation.

I think it's much deeper than just major programs. Sure they're the ones that are doing it at much more extravagant levels.

The SMU scandal was way worse IMO.

They were on probation, and had booster meetings with the SMU President and AD about how to pay players and were subsequently busted again.

Much bigger ring and web of scandalous activity.

But man, if they can prove the AD was involved or something to that effect. This will be 10x worse than USC.

This looks to be the biggest scandal since SMU though, without question.

I don't think SMU or Miami did anything wrong.

Yahoo is on a witch hunt! This is ridiculous!

OSU is not a 100% clean program by any means, but I do agree with most of what you are saying. And this is a nice perspective for the OSU fans out there. Yes OSU is in trouble and will most likely get something further than the self imposed penalties, but Miami is out of control.

The one thing that will be interested in is if they get tagged with a lack of institutional control (dont see how Miami avoids it actually) or even worse, if they can prove anyone associated with the university knew of the violations.

What you seem to forget is the selling of the stuff wasnt bad, it was the coach lying about it....but if any university offical knew of these violations, then what Miami did was 10 times worse. My prediction is this will not end well for Miami.

That statement is no more educated than it is now.

These things happen, but to just assume every program does it like that...especially on THIS level, is asinine to say the least.

And I've never claimed Yahoo to be on a witchhunt...ESPN on the other hand, has already been proven to be.

Disputing that and then calling people naive if they don't believe your theory of nationwide college football program corruption based on no evidence except "if you don't believe this youre dumb", pretty much sums you up as a poster in general....
