I was watching Baseball Tonight last night and they talked about Carmona and his struggles... Basically what they said:
John Kruk:" Carmona has all the stuff to be a very good closer in this league. All he really needs to do, is figure it out mentally. Once he does that, the Indians will be set at closer for awhile. You will now have a guy at the back of your bullpen who has gone through all the struggles and now knows how to handle the tough situations."
Steve Phillips: "This guy has dynamic stuff, but needs some more confidence in his game. IMHO, what the Indians should do is put him in a role where he can build his confidence back up. Let him go in agaisnt some cupcake teams and get some wins. Then go from there and let him close again."
They then showed a graphic, basically like this:
Mariano Rivera: Blew 3 out of first 6 saves; first year as full time close
Trevor Hoffman: Blew 2 saves out of 4 chances
Billy Wagner: Blew 2 out of 5 saves at his first shot at closing
Basically what they said was they can't give up on him. Just because he's had his struggles, you need to work him through it. Teams like the Yankees could of gave up on Rivera, and would of never seen his full potential.
I thought some of you would enjoy this..
