2005-06 SERIES: Pistons: 2-1

LAST MEETING: February 26-27...The Cavs could not handle the back to back games against the NBA's best team... lost both home and away game

Cavaliers' Notes:

* Cleveland has won 11 of its last 12, with its sole loss coming off a back-to-back road game.

* The Cavs have been without the services of Zydrunas Ilgauskas for 3 games. His status is still undecided.

* With their win over New Jersey on Saturday, the Cavs clinched the 4th seed, guaranteeing them home court advantage in the first round. This is the highest they can achieve this season, so the outcome of the rest of their games is meaningless with regards to seed. The starters, as seen through last night's rotations, will see more rest than usual in this stretch towards the playoffs.

* The Cavaliers are 18-20 on the road.

Pistons' Notes:

* Once projected to win 70 games this year, the Pistons faltered and fell short of that benchmark, but their 62 wins so far is no joke this competitive league.

* The Pistons have no major injuries, and have been fortunate all season not to lose a starter his job.

* Detroit has clinched the best record in the East. It retains the best record in the league still, but continues to fight for the best record in the NBA to secure home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

* The Pistons tie for second best home record with 27-12.

lyXo's Keys to the Game

* The Cavs are weak guarding the 3, while the Pistons remain one of the best in the league. Guarding the likes of Rasheed Wallace out on the perimeter should be a top priority.

* While on the subject of three pointers, we must not fall in love with the shot. Even though we have been on fire as of late, that fire could easily be quelled when rebounds are gobbled up by the Wallaces. Attacking the basket will be equally as difficult. A mixture of the two combined with passing to find the open man should be the game plan.

* Without Z, we have shifted to a more fast-paced game. It won't be as easy, as it worked against mediocre defensive teams, but against Detroit, their transition defense will slow us down. Plus, they are quite talented at scoring off turnovers. Take every fastbreak opportunity possible, but don't always force it.

* We'll see how the LeBron-Hughes-Flip works in real time, against a real team. It'll be interesting to watch these three guys with similar games work against a complete team in the Pistons. It'll be a good measuring stick as to whether Flip stays or not.

Final Note:

This is a nice 2nd round playoff preview for the second round. I expect it to be a very good, fast paced game. There is the factor that the Cavs are playing for nothing while the Pistons still compete for home court throughout the playoffs, but that won't stop LeBron. I just hope we'll save enough energy for our back-to-back tomorrow, or we may get embarrassed by NYK twice in a row. Regardless, tonight's game will be one to remember. Don't miss it.

Huge game tonite!!! These teams may meet in the 2nd round, so i bet it will be a playoff type game all night, with the teams fighting for a psychological edge. A Cavalier win would be HUGE, like the NJ win, would send a message to the league that the Cavs are for real.

Cavs got embarassed the last 2 losses against Detroit, but they are playing much better now, and im sure will want to show the Pistons they can play at their level. Win or lose, as long as they compete with them for 48 min, and can match the physical play of Detroit, Ill be content. But i think LBJ will be fantastic and lead the Cavs to a victory tonite!!!

Have, with our recent, excellent play, banished the spectre of the "Nationally Televised Game" jinx? The Heat win was huge...and televised. Or was it never applicable in the first place...maybe we only suck on TNT. I'm sick of curses, and I think we're gonna play Detroit close.

Here's to game-winning shots...

Stephen Graham is going to drop 50 on Tayshaun Prince book it..

this could be a big win going into the playoffs if they pull this off. if they cant grab the w, hopefully they will at least pound the wallaces a few times in the name of z. these guys gotta prove they can play physical or the team will never be respected. cavs 89 piss 82

who knows honestly....I am not sure how we will handle this game....we have no need to win other than for pure pride and maybe to help the James for MVP campagin but other than that this game is meaningless.....it will be interesting which team shows up...a team that knows it place in the playoffs and doesnt want to extend thiere superstar or a team hingray for pay back....we'll see but for now I am predicintg a loss

I agree that Z is indeed the key to this one. He's also the key to playoff wins so if he aint ready... an injury would be devastating to this team.

There hasnt been much mention of it but this game features two big-time contenders for the MVP spot. A win might clinch for either one of em. Perhaps we'll have another superstar showdown as we did with Bron- Flash a couple weeks ago.

Im really scared about this one. I jsut want LeBron to win MVP so bad. This may be the key game. A Pistons blowout would be devastating to his chances.

My Prediction: Cavs win 88-86. Flip and Hughes are both crucial down the stretch. Perhaps one hitting a game-winner.

I see this and Washington as the two games the Cavs will be 'up' for. Hopefully. Someone has to step in and whup some Wallace ass. Tonight's not a meaningless game and it's not just about pride; it's about credibility and energy heading into the playoffs.

I'm about to go watch this game on HD. Ya baby/lol

I"m surprised this hasn't come up more and totally agree. I"m thinking Z is only going to be 80-90% throughout the playoffs but I don't want to spread any bad karma.

imo, with eric snow in, we will not outscore them... this has nothing to do with how i feel about him personally, but detroit plays against teams' weaknesses which means i don't anticipate many open 3's for DJ and the Tuna, and they will certainly lay off of eric Yayo, so he is going to hurt us more than he helps us this game. i wish us the best, but i am worried. 8-2 pistons.

Drew Gooden can't guard Rasheed Wallace...

However, Drew Gooden can guard PJ Brown
