Report: Cavaliers' owner wants Skiles

A broadcast report Thursday night said new Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert's first choice to coach the Cavaliers is Scott Skiles.

Gilbert attended Michigan State, Skiles' alma mater.

The Bulls have a team option for Skiles next season, and general manager John Paxson has said consistently his goal this summer is to sign his coach to an extension.

Skiles' stance has been he will sign an extension only if it meets his desires both financially and in terms of security.

Skiles is another decent option. I think he did a very good job with the Bulls this season. They had one of the best defenses in the league and executed well on offense.

I dont know about him being the first choice though. I would take guys like Flip and McMillan before him. Unless he has already talked to them and they turned us down.

I doubt Skiles will want to leave the Bulls after a successful year, but I do like the fact Gilbert is out there pounding the pavement.

Skiles is way back on my list, don't care who's alma mater.

I can't see Skiles leaving the Bulls or them letting him leave. I don't think he's a legitimate option.
Wasn't whoever gets hired as Cavs GM supposed to be the main voice in the hiring of a coach?

Precisely, Narl. All of this talk about who Gilbert wants as coach is, per usual with him, putting the cart before the horse. Hire a good general manager, open the checkbook, and get the hell out of the way.

Yawn. Every person with a contract running up has just decided to use the Cavs for leverage since they know we have an owner with deep pockets. Half this stuff is completely unfounded
