If Jamison is cheap I have no problem bringing him back next year. Someone needs to score!!
I don't really see any benefit in bringing back Jamison or any veteran in order to improve the team on the court through their stats such as scoring, passing, defense, etc. All that really does is hurt our draft slots year after year up to our contention for a championship.
If we do bring back vets, one benefit I see from it is using them as leadership for the young players. That could still lead to a worse draft slot, but, as long as it's because of the improvement of the long-term players (Kyrie, TT, Gee), then I'm all for it. I'd just want to see very low minutes from Jamison in order to allow the young guys to play. Also, big minutes for Jamison still means that he could give us an extra win or two, which we don't need at this point.
I'd also be ok with bringing back Jamison to be used for a trade either at the beginning of the season or later. Imagine signing Jamison to a veteran minimum contract, or even a 3-5 million a year contract, which, for Jamison's talent level even at 35, is still very reasonable. Quite frankly, it seems as though Jamison has a few more years in him before he is going to not be worth it. He's still actually pretty good. He'd be much more valued as a player at the trade deadline with a contract like that. We could have him for a good chunk of the season, then trade him off to a contender for a 1st + junk or even a young prospect on top of the 1st. That way, we see value come out of him with veteran presence, and we get value out of him.
I've thought this over, and I wouldn't mind actually keeping Parker for another year or two if we have no better use for the player slot he would take up. Parker flat out sucks and is not going to hurt our draft slots any, and he probably would see a massive cut in minutes and be in full-blown veteran presence mode next season for any new wings (SGs/SFs) that we would bring in. The same goes for Boobie and even Walton although I don't see Walton being on this team very long one way or another.
The one vet I see needing to go is Andy. His value is fairly high, and we need to get value from him while we can so that we don't have a broken down Andy when we need him most and instead something to show for him when we would need him. Moving him would also potentially improve our draft slots up until the time we would contend for a championship. Like I said, players who don't have a future on this team only hurt our draft positions with good play that won't be so good when the time comes to win the finals, which is highly likely going to be the case with Andy if we keep him.
