Cavaliers Notes
·LAST MEETING: 1/8/2008 Cleveland 95, Sonics 79 @ the Q
·Daniel Gibson (17 points) and Anderson Varejao (14 points, nine rebounds) led a bench unit that scored 45 points as the Cavs defeated the Sonics 95-
79.
·LeBron James scored 10 of his game-high 22 points as Cleveland outscored Seattle 24-15 in the first period.
·Sasha Pavlovic scored 13 points and added three assists and two steals in just 23 minutes.
·The Cavs broke open an 8-8 tie, going on an 12-1 run late in the first period to take over the game.
·Cleveland has won 13 of their last 16 games.
·The Cavaliers have gone 11-2 during the month of January including a 6-1 mark on the road. With a win tonight, Cleveland would post 12 wins in a month for just the third time in team history.
·The Cavs forced a season-high 23 turnovers while only turning the ball over 12 times in the last meeting.
·Over his last 11 games, LeBron James has averaged 33.3 points on .491 shooting, 9.6 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game. He posted his 14th double-double of the season last night in Portland with 37 points and 14 rebounds including 17 fourth quarter points and the game-winning basket with 0.3 seconds remaining.
·Following Cleveland’s 84-83 win in Portland last night, the Cavaliers have now won an NBA-high 13 games this season when they trail entering the fourth quarter.
·Over his last 11 games, Damon Jones has connected on .500 (17-34) from three-point range. He ranks tied for ninth in the NBA in three-point percentage since Jan. 6.
·LeBron James leads the NBA in fourth-quarter scoring at 9.3 points and is two points ahead of Dwyane Wade who is second at 7.3 points.
·Kevin Durant led the Sonics with 24 points in the last meeting.
·Nick Collison pulled down 14 rebounds in the loss to the Cavs.
·Sonics forward/center Nick Collison played at the University of Kansas with Cavs forward Drew Gooden.
·Seattle GM Sam Presti and Head Coach P.J. Carlesimo and Cavs GM Danny Ferry and Assistant GM Lance Blanks were all members of the Spurs front office when they won an NBA Title in 2005.
·Build a healthy lead and rest the starters. The Sonics just don't have the horses to compete on the level the Cavs are playing right now. On the 2nd night of a back-to-back, playing against one of the worst teams, record-wise, in the NBA, it is a perfect time to lead early and rest LBJ and Z.
·Showcase the tradeable assets. Building on the first key, this should be an ideal game to showcase the tradeable talent in Drew, Shannon, E Snow, Ira, and Hot Donny. They should all be serviceable in a game against a faltering team with no homecourt.
·The Cavs, even with injuries, are a superior team to the Sonics. The Sonics will improve, but they are young (starting 2 rookies), and are a few years and a few pieces from having a contending team. Add to that the controversy surrounding their stay in Seattle and possible move to Oklahoma City, their homecourt advantage is all but gone. The cavs are coming into the this as the 2nd game of a roady back-to-back, but are just playing too well defensively for Seattle's erratic rookies to be able to compete.
