I'm getting a new cell phone..I currently have a shitty motorola prepaid POS that I'm peddling to my brother for 60 bux...

I'm not a person who sits on a cell phone while at my house and burns up minutes or texts people obsessively..if I have something to say I'll call..

With that said I found this deal on here where I get..

Motorola RAZR V3 Blue (Camera Phone) for FREE

I sign up with Cingular for 2 years 40 bux per month 450 minutes, 5,000 night and weekend and stuff and I can talk free after 7pm I believe..

Is this a good deal from the looks of things? Is the Razr worth getting...?

Any advice would be much appreciated..

Deal

cdt, I have the Razr V3c through Verizon and I love it. Nice and slim, fits in your pocket, speaker phone, voice activated dialing, nice LCD screen, never had a problem with it.

be careful with stuff like this, it may be free, but there is an activation fee, which could be as much as the phone (thats how they get over on people) and then your looking at about at least $80 a year. i dont know your money situation, but since your still in high school, if you CAN pay this, good. Establish credit at a young age itll look good, but if your going to have to struggle to pay it, its not gonna look good on your credit and would prevent you from getting more important things later down the road. there is nothing wrong with pre-paid phones, they sell good ones for about 80-120 straight out, then add minutes.

When I was working at Best Buy I had heard many stories about the Razr being fragile and breaking easily. I have never owned one but I know a few people with them and they haven't really had any problems.

Cingular is pretty decent and competitive.

Sprint has awful Customer Service.

Verizon is most expensive but has the best coverage & service.

Tmobile has the better deal on minutes.

This is what I have learned working in the wireless dept. and reading Wired mags review.

Dont lock yourself into a 2 yaer contract...if you arent a person that is worried about minutes, you'd be better off with something like Revol. They dont have nationwide, but you arent in the position to be traveling all over anyway.

For $50 a month I think, you get unlimited minutes and txts to anybody, plus there is no contract.

Problem is I don't have about 50 bux to alot to a cell phone..I'm trying to stick around 40 bux..I'm glad minimum wage is kicking in soon :)

I have Sprint and their customer service is lacking but i hardly have problems with them.

I have Cingular.. and I go over my mintues every month and I have no idea how..... I think I have the 900 day time minute plan.. free nights and weekends... My bill is roughly $130 a month... I'm cutting my plan, cuz of my maternity leave, cuz I'll be at home. I plan to go with the cheapest plan then.

Be careful with them... but thats any cell company. They all have those hidden charges and you actually need to take the time and look at your bill like it's a disection project in biology class.

Yep same here. Had them for about 6 months now. Coverage is great. No problems so far. Get all the minues and text I need for $30 a month which is just sexy.

But if your getting Cingular.. Wait for the iPhone and be the pimp of your senior class.

Comes out in June my last day is in May :chuckles: Not to mention I'm not paying 600 bux for a phone that lasts 5 hours..

^^ That phone is HUGE too, I saw it yesterday. $600 is way too much. Reminds me of when the Razor came out and it was like $400-500 and now they're giving it away for free.

I like the new avatar pic Nicky - is that Drew's pic from high school?

^^ I have no idea where it came from... I just like the fact that he has hair on this one, instead of that GAWD awful patch he has now!

The first time i saw it i thought it was a bar code tat.:chuckles:

My wife has had the Razr for over a year, and no problems with it. Unless you have a steady job, though, don't get anything but a prepaid. You don't want to fudge up a contract, and screw your credit up. Also you may have to pay a deposit, so the dream of a "free phone" after that and activation is merely a mirage.
