The bitter battle within the Atlanta Hawks' ownership group escalated Thursday when one of the owners took his partners to court and got a restraining order against them.

The order, sought by Steve Belkin in a Boston court, temporarily prohibits the majority of the Hawks' owners from removing him as the team's NBA governor — a position Belkin has used this week to block a trade his partners want to make with the Phoenix Suns for guard Joe Johnson.

Thursday's legal salvo is the latest setback for a troubled franchise that has struggled for years to win games, fans and credibility.

The Boston-based Belkin filed the lawsuit against his partners after they called a meeting for Friday to vote on removing him as the Hawks' governor.
Now why does Joe Johnson wish to play there?

Wow. What a messed up situation. Atlanta deserves better.

Joe Johnson also deserves better.

Think Phoenix would take Gooden and Snow for JJ?

It is a really messed up situation. The Hawks have become the new Clippers.

You would think they could build a decent team down there. Many athletes enjoy Atlanta and make their homes there. They have just been horribly run in recent years.

From Terry Stotts to acquiring Tony Delk it's just been some hard times down their. I think they should trade their good players for future draft picks and basically shut down the team for a year. And start from scratch. Thats how bad it is down there.

They maybe the new clippers in the sense of losing....but the majority of their owners, lol, have tried to spend money to win. Players just dont want it..

Sterling just doesnt care and wont spend money..so yah, the Clipps will always stink

Not that they would take that trade, but wouldn't landing Hughes AND JJ make for a sweet backcourt? Momma mia!

Hmmm, maybe some kind of three way trade with NY could be swung.....yeah, probably not.

Gawd.. why is Atlanta so stupid. Overpaying, yes. But seriously though. You want fans, right? If you pull a move like this then you lose that respect.

70 mil is a lot to cough up, but the contract will not hinder future cap flexibility. That's what you should be thinking about, because if you get a successful team, the money will return eventually. I'm glad I'm no Hawks fan.
