Did not get to see CY when he was a rookie. The trip from Massillon to Cleveland was over a day long in Dads wagon.
Saw him once at some sort of community picnic in Newcomerstown not long after his career. Dad took the Model T down there to pick up wool from a woolen mill for Mom, who made braided rugs, and we stopped in to eat.
They had a ballgame between Newcomerstown and Coshocton. CY pitched for Newcomerstown. It was no contest.
What I remember most was how BIG he was. He was huge, the size of many pitchers today...6-2, 220.
In comparison, Stan Covaleski, star of the 1920 World Series, was known as the Big Polock. He was 5-11, 165....and that was more than 30 years after CY began.
