Are analytics used in any way to make hiring/firing decisions for defensive and special teams coordinators? Honest question.
Analytics is nothing more than using data as information to make decisions. People talk about it like its some Boogeyman with taped glasses and a pocket protector exacting its revenge on athletes that bullied them. Humans, by nature, are analytical. Touch a hot stove, burn yourself, don't touch it anymore. See another stove, get a potholder or check to make sure its turned off before touching it again. Thats analytics. It provides context to a situation, instead of just saying "he sucks," it tells you why and helps figure out how not to suck again.
Yes, analytics helps hire and fire folks. If Joe Woods can't get execution out of his players, thats data used to figure out if he should have a job next year. Analytics also helps realize that firing a coordinator midseason, when playoffs are still possible, rarely has a positive impact on that unit, so whether a coordinator has a job next year or not, it's not wise to fire someone mid-season.
Analytics are why you rarely see this regime react rashly, or pivot suddenly. This regime, whether folks like it or not, has thought through their plan and will see it through, taking time to analyze new data at specific points in the process. Its how they operate, and folks getting upset that they aren't reacting more suddenly are only setting themselves up for unwarranted stress and anxiety...though, this is a Browns fan board, so it goes with the territory, I suppose.
