Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How do you rate the correctability of Darnold, Allen, and Rosen's flaws v. Mayfields?

Just asking because it appears Mayfield is in the crosshairs.

Rosen is essentially pro-ready.

His mechanical flaws aren't causing much inaccuracy or turnovers, as it relates to the issues of the others.

Darnold's problems stem mainly from the lower body, needs more torque and more of a full body approach to throwing and doing so on platform. The fumbles are a whole different issue to me, nothing to do with hand size, but his control of the ball and movements in the pocket make him more susceptible to the hits and strip attempts. These are somewhat workable, but he's always going to be that guy to some extent IMO. He's not changing who he is.

Mayfield is never changing. He's going to hop around back there like Jeff Garcia and let his guys go make plays. Now, that's something a team can win with sometimes, but it's going to come with a shit load of negative plays people need to be prepared for. Takes a ton of sacks, will miss a ton of guys playing with the free-wielding mechanics he can still thrive in with Lincoln Riley.

Don't really follow NFL except rooting against Patriots.

But, who do we want as 1st pick?

That's not "analytics," it's statistics from an inflated college system.

Theres just no way to get you to open up at all or get you to see from any other angle, just too hard headed on Rosen ..."he was never pressured" here's his stats under pressure #1.."he can't make NFL throws" here's his stats showing he is still ranked ahead of the others on NFL throws.."he can't throw a long ball or under throws them" here's the stats showing he's the most accurate and efficient on deep balls. Doesn't matter what we come back with. It all goes back to he didn't play in a pro system for you. Good thing the NFL isnt changing from it's old school pro style at all. Didn't an RPO offense just with the SB? Didn't the Steelers just drop Haley for a more RPO system? How bout the Texans and Deshaun Watson last year? What about the Packers? Rams and Jared Goff?

This feels like when the Cavaliers were picking Andrew Wiggins when I was begging for Embiid.

Can we trade Baker for the NFL equivalent of Kevin Love in a few months?

At this point can we just take Chubb at #1 and trade down and get Ward :chuckle:

Your unwillingness to acknowledge the difference in schematics is why you'll never understand what my argument is.

You're not quoting me accurately, and just making up the strawman to argue against. Since you don't need me here, I'll leave you to it.

I'm not dealing with people who are blatantly misrepresenting my argument.

Good luck.

So Rosen’s mechanics are not what’s causing his high turnover rate?

So that leaves his decision making? Which is the hardest thing to correct.

Man, I dont know...the more I think about Baker @ 1, the more I'm not thrilled. I will trust that Dorsey, Wolf and others know what they are doing, but I'm not wholly thrilled with taking a guy who played in that offense.

I think he is a stronger armed Colt McCoy. Not that he is going to be bad but I think he is close to peaked. If he fixes his footwork, that still doesn't change a lot of flaws in his game. He still will struggle when he comes off his first read.

I dont know. I see a solid but unspectacular QB. Maybe I'm wrong, but I dont think I will be in this case.

It's 2pm and this thread is already insufferable.

Can't wait for 8!

This isn't necessarily true, but based on what is this the hardest to correct?

Because mechanics can be consistently drilled into habits.

Decision making isn’t so simple. You need to have the mental capacity for it.

I think how you handle yourself under pressure is the hardest thing to correct.

Neither are amazing at it.

Well. One is a stone statue in the pocket, and one can get outside and extend the play if need be.

Ehhh...

Mayfield runs into pressure a lot more than I would like.

Do we all remember Charlie Frye? He made a living running into blocked pass rushers. I think Mayfield has that same flaw.

I think Mayfield could be really good in the Haley offense. I dont think it's fair that he gets docked for mastering the Riley offense. Get him in an NFL playbook and he could be just as good in structure.

I just really wish he was better at making plays in a broken pocket. He isn't in the same stratosphere as Darnold or Jackson in broken pocket plays. He's barely at the same level as Rosen at that.
