Selling off premium talent to a big market team. Self explanatory.
I expect us to ask for the moon and NY to decline, though. There probably is a deal in there I’d do but doubt it happens.
I get that part, but hasn't it typically worked out pretty well?
They traded CC Sabathia to Milwaukee. That trade, which was panned by many at the time, got the Tribe 10 years of Michael Brantley for a few months of Sabathia.
They traded Cliff Lee to Philadelphia. That trade also worked out pretty well, as the Indians have had 9 years and counting of Carrasco for a guy that was dealt again after one year.
The traded Victor Martinez to Boston. He spent 1.5 years in Boston before signing with Detroit, for 5.5 years of Justin Masterson. That deal wasn't the slam dunk that the others were, but it turned out to be a solid deal.
When, in recent history, have they sold off premium talent and not had it work out? The only example I can even think of was Brandon Phillips.
