Cleveland School Shooting

CLEVELAND -- Officials say three students were shot after a teen opened fire at a downtown Cleveland school on Wednesday.

Police said at least three people were shot at Success Tech School, a small non-traditional high school located at East 13th Street and Lakeside Avenue.

Police said a male was shot on the school's third floor and that another person was shot on the fifth floor.

Cleveland fire, police and EMS are at the scene. Mayor Frank Jackson and schools CEO Dr. Eugene Sanders have also arrived at the scene.

NewsChannel5's Lorna Barett reported that the incident may have stemmed from an altercation between two students that took place on Tuesday. One of the students, a 14-year-old, returned on Wednesday with a gun and reportedly opened fire inside the building.

There is no word yet on whether the suspect has been apprehended at this time.

MetroHealth Medical Center said three shooting victims have been transported to its trauma center, but there is no word on any of the victims' conditions.

Barett said dozens of police cars are at the scene and the area has been blocked off. Some students were in the building at the time of the shooting and the school went into lockdown.

Students are now being evacuated and reunited with their parents, and police are currently getting witness reports.

No other information is known at this time.

sad story, some of these kids they are interviewing are making themselves look like idiots....one kid dropped a "f bomb" on CNN.

^ It's the location of the school. So must of those kids are from the inner city. And their parents most likely had them at an early age, and I'm sure their language isn't the greatest. And "F"-bombs are second nature for them and their kids.

From what I've heard on the news, he came in with one gun in each hand. <-- Kind of reminds me of the V-Tech shooting.

^Well, i dont think this kid killed anyone....looks and sounds like he didnt even kill himself, it was the SWAT team that got him.

The youth in this city is getting worse and worse. My car was broken into during Game 2 of the ALDS in a parking lot on Erie (between E. 9th and E. 14th). Police caught them in the act and left a note in my car. I went down to the station after the game and it was a group of 10 kids between the ages of 12 and 14. They had them all cuffed together and loaded them into a paddy wagon while I was there. This kid could have even been one of them. Sad.

^Its like that everywhere i guess, but my god, these kids all looked like idiots, arguing who got out of the building first and stuff, i couldnt believe it. If this is more so of a charter school where the good kids are supposed to go, i dont even want to know what the regular schools are like, my god.

well, looks like i was wrong, the kid killed himself, sort of sick, killed himself over a suspension for fighting. teachers really need to take a bigger role in student bodies and be somewhat more observant (on every level) to help identify problematic students early on and help them get the help they need.

I don't think it's a charter school, sounds more like a school they send all the dickhead kids to so they won't interfere with all the kids trying to learn.

I saw this on at the gym today on CNN and saw "School Shooting in Ohio" and my heart sunk..I was just praying it wasn't my old HS where my g/f is at.

It was weird though I got to class today and there were 2 ambulances in front of the entrance to the building where my class was at..and on the other side when I pulled in the SWAT team was there...I almost did a fat U-Turn and went back home..

This is just a horribly sad incident... It seems like these school shootings are happening every other week... what can be done?

They showed the tape,looked like the kid got beat down pretty bad in the fight.It was like 3 kids on top of him,they also said the main cop in the front was out of town so there was a replacement so he didn't know the kid was suspended when he let him in.

All to often? This kid didnt kill anyone but himself, Virginia Tech was much much different. This kid just went in there shooting. People can say "oh we need metal detectors in every school" well, where is the money going to come to do that and put those in place in poorer states/school districts? There was a kid gunned down at a school here in DC like 3 years ago at a school that had metal detectors. It wasnt a random shooting, he was the intended victim so i guess thats a little different. What needs to be done is kids and parents need to be more aware. Parents need to take a more active role in students lives and try to deter behavior like this and look for warning signs and get troublesome kids the help they need. We live in an age of fingerpointing, everything is the next persons problem.
