Garland is the guy I hope improves the most but do agree he doesn’t seem like a floor general/leader out there…

I get serious Jeff Teague vibes with him….

Stef Curry said in a recent interview he expects Garland to be a “flat out star” in the league.

I just wonder if that's more of a hint to Golden State for what Curry wants them to acquire if they can't pull off a trade for an establish star. Maybe Curry looks at Garland as the skill set of a player that he could mentor into a star.

Garland could help an aging Golden State team and might fit into the pace they want to run now. Curry is the biggest star of their team but how is he really suppose to mentor their young players like Wiseman and Kuminga when they play much different positions than him.

Well even if this is his ulterior motive, it's still a nice endorsement for Darius.

To hell with him and the Warriors, but I'm still cautiously optimistic with Garland. He doesn't seem quite like that alpha just yet, but I'm hopeful that all of this outside praise that he is garnering will give him the confidence to go out and kill it. He seems like a good dude with a level head. And coachable. I'd much rather need to blow smoke up a talented young player's ass than have to teach him to stop being a cancerous jackass.

I have high hopes for Darius this year -- I think he makes a huge leap.

Wut?

Hilarious that Joe Lacob was fined 50 grand for tampering with Ben Simmons. Might be the first time in sports history another team’s owner or exec was fined for saying he didn’t want a player. Although Joe did compare Ben to Draymond and for that he deserves a swift kick in the nuts from Green.

If Curry is actually involved in a complicated plot to get his own team to trade for Garland so DG can be his hand picked successor, that would be an *even bigger* endorsement of Garland's skills than a throwaway line in an off season interview. Amazing but true.

That’s what I hate about the NBA! They fine the owners for tampering by mentioning names but players tamper allllllllllll the time! Before AD went to LA…LBJ mentioned that he would “love to play with AD” but all he got was a verbal warning from the league.
As for Garland he MUST become that “alpha” player on the team this year. He needs to take the mindset of “give me the ball…THIS IS MY TEAM”

So Draymond has been pretty vocal about how his endorsements of who they drafted and how he has talks with Bob Myers before the draft of who he likes. I wouldn't say it's Curry wanting to hand pick his successor. I would say it could be more of a back handed knock on the direction they have gone.

Curry is 33 and picking players like Wiseman and Kuminga aren't going to help him during whatever window he has left. They also haven't seem to be able to package those players for a star despite where they were drafted. A player like Garland could be someone they could get up to speed quickly and possibly flip for that star they want.

I think Garland needs someone to help him understand the mental approach he needs to take to the game to be a star. It's like how Oladipo learned he needed to be aggressive if he wanted to be a star while playing with Westbrook in OKC. He didn't turn on that switch until he got to Indy but he credits watching Westbrook in helping him to understand on how he needed to play. For Garland I'm just not sure he will find that on his own without a vet being in his ear day in day out to get him there.

I wouldn't put it past players to think that they could trade Wiseman and/or Kuminga to the Cavs for Garland. Player probably look down at this current Cavs organization and think it would be easy to fleece us. I'm not even sure Koby would automatically turn down Wiseman and/or Kuminga for Garland.

The logical gymnastics you're doing would get a 10 from even the Russian judges...

Well, the way tampering is defined it has to be by a franchise, and a player isn't a legal agent/representative of the franchise so they can't tamper. Neither are agents, so that's a giant way around most of those restrictions anyway.

I think a lot of players make horrible talent evaluators. I remember when Kevin Garnett was sure Thon Maker would be a star. This isn't to say that Garland wont end up being a star. I just don't take former or current players talent evaluation as gospel.

I'm just trying to bring a different perspective on things than the usual Sexton vs Garland stuff we usually go into.

Here is a new topic. How much will it really take to break Garland's tendencies to not play quickly or aggressively? I think it will take alot because his dad was an NBA PG so Darius has been coached up by his dad his whole life to play a certain way. I think it will take someone really accomplished to reset how he views playing the game. I don't simply think it will be someone working out with him over a summer. I think he needs someone day in day out during the season in his ear. Someone that he wants to mold his game to be like.

I hear what you’re saying but then why even give him a verbal warning?
