I may be in the minority here, but i dont want (or think the team is at its best) if Darius' scoring stays where it is, or increases. I think this team will have the most success when hes a threat from outside and he probes defenses driving down the lane and using PnR plays. If his scoring takes a dip, but his scoring percentages and assists increase, im a very happy man.

I dont see his scoring taking a dip, especially in the first half without Rubio. When Rubio comes back if he goes back to 18-19 a game that is fine. I would like to see him at 40% or more from 3, the rest of his game is perfect, but he is still so young, works hard on his game, so it will improve somewhere, honestly he is as good as I thought he was going to get and i was a huge fan of the pick, so I am just excited to go on the Garland journey and see where he improves.

I said it the day he was drafted that I didn’t like the fact the Cavs had drafted two 6’1 PGs back to back and didn’t like the pick! I also said if he proved me wrong I would be the first to come on here admit it. Well…..
I WAS DEAD WRONG ABOUT GARLAND! ;)

You should want his scoring to increase, scoring gravity and assist go hand in hand. If Darius is a non threat the team gets way easier to defend. Him taking and making deeper pull up 3's means the defender has stick closer to him leading to more and more paint drives which causes the defense to collapse.

Garland and Spiders relationship will be interesting. From what i gather Spider likes the ball in his hands and got his 26 ppg mostly from having said ball in his hands. Mitchell was like 5th in usage while Garland was like 15th and no one on the board wants Mitchell having that much high a usage here so Mitchell will have to adjust to this being Garland’s team.

In 2019, Starting with Rubio, Mitchell averaged 24/4, Rubio 13 and 6. Mitchell was still 6th in the league in usage rate and Rubio played 28 mins a game.

Mitchell will go down some, but our SF most likely wont have a high usage right, Allen is a low usage guy and Mobley will have a bit more usage, but really isnt a ball in his hands guy.

Eventually Rubio comes off the bench, but only Rubio and Levert off the bench are also high usage guys. Wade and Lebron were both high usage guys, Pippen and Jordan, ect.

My point is I hope Mitchell's respect and friendship with Garland allows him to play off ball more. Garland flurished without Sexton, but Darius was also his best with Rubio. Both Garland and Mitchell should have their best 3-point shooting years of their career playing off ball.

Honestly its not offense that worries me, its the amount of pressure these 2 will put on our bigs defensively.

I think our bigs can handle that pressure. If it were 2 clunkers I’d be worried but Allen and Mobley recover great and i think will help the guards just fine on the drives

I just found this video. Enjoy!

I found myself genuinely smiling watching this. He may be my favorite point guard since Andre Miller/Jason Williams, and not just because he plays for my favorite team. Hes the kind of player *I* would want to play with (as are many of this Cavaliers roster, which may be why theyve been so fun/enjoyable to watch).

Ive said it before, but he reminds me so much of an evolution of Mark Price and Steve Nash. His size, use of angles, shooting, ability to get *anywhere* he wants without elite athleticism, his footwork, scoop layup, court vision, unselfishness, triple threat (layup/pass/alleyoop) from anywhere, movements in the lane, etc. I dont think he'll be League MVP (especially with Mitchell), but hes gonna be a regular All-Star as long as he wants.

Anyone else think he could lead the league in assists this season?

You need to be the guy with your hands on the ball almost all the time for that. I think Mitchell initiating offense will make it hard for Garland to accumulate that many assists. He will have a bunch, but probably not enough to overcome guys like Luka, Trae, Harden, CP3 who are their team’s exclusive creators. Although Trae’s may go down with Murray on board.

It's possible. I'm pretty sure he'll average at least 10 apg. Lamello Ball, Trae Young, will be his competitors, and maybe Luka. I think Lebron and Chris Paul are past double-digit assists.

I saw Tony Pesta say on twitter, "Dame and CJ or Garland and Mitchell?" I think Mitchell is pretty clearly better than CJ, but was thinking about Garland and Dame.

This is pretty shocking to me. I didn't go through all of Dames prime years, but comparing Dame at 30 and Garland at 22 is wild. Garland is more efficient in every shooting metric. Now, Dame puts up 10 3's a game probably almost all off the bounce. I thought Dame was the best assist and shooting guy, so Garland beating him in efficiency and assists surprised me. He's also a couple more 3pt attempts from eclipsing his scoring. I would have said Garland is the better defender and the numbers say that is also true.

Garland is the same age that Lillard came into the league. I think people said it would be unheard of for him to progress to that level, but he is pretty much there and is better than when Dame came in. I see now that last year wasn't Lillard's best year, but it isn't a crazy outlier exactly.

Garland and Dame is an interesting comparison. Dame is a bit bigger but comparable physical profile.

Garland is a slightly more efficient shooter but I think Dame does more as an overall scorer. He is better from midrange and gets to the line more.

Conversely, Garland is a much better passer. He has better natural vision and a bigger package of passes, especially that alleyoop/floater. Dame is great out of PnR bc hes had a million reps of it, but doesn't have a great passing package out of it.

I think Dame is probably the better player today ( assuming 2021 form), but this comp looks really good for Garland

I probably take Dame over Garland, but it wasnt as close as I once thought and i see a path for Garland to be better. Thing is I was a huge Garland supporter from day one, so Garland is exceeding my already high opinion of him.

Mitchell over CJ, and this one isnt close. Mitchell is probably the best player of the 4, atlast right now he is, and might always be. He is very good. I like CJ allot, but he isnt anywhere close to the other 3. So when it comes to it, its very clearly Mitchell and Garland as one is better than Dame possibly and the other has a path to get better than Dame.
