Sure like I've said I've been a fan of Garland but man the Trae Young comparisons that people keep bringing up kills me as it's just not how Young's season in terms of perception played out.

Not only was it obvious that Young had exceptional court vision but in his first 11 games he already had 4 games over 20 point with career high at that point of 35 points. He had some awful shooting games but those were mixed as noted with some real good performances (he had one game with 25 points and 15 assists and even in his 35 point game he had 11 assists!). Young actually dipped after what I would say was a good start over the next 10 games and then he slowly progressed after that. It was that second quarter of the season when he dipped, the Doncic comparisons really flared up in a negative way for ATL.

A better comparison for those who want to preach watch and wait maybe Fox who didn't look like much pretty much his entire rookie year before bursting into the scene last year
Garland doesnt have the ball nearly as much as Trae did.

Then as I stated don't use Trae's shooting as an example then! Trae as noted in his first 11 games had several games where he shot the ball well (efficiently) and showed other aspects to his game that stood out.

The problem with Garland is he really hasn't had a game where he's shown he's really exceptional at anything. This doesn't mean he won't (getting into the lane is a good place to start which he can do) but in terms of perception, Fox remains a better comparison only in the sense he just didn't do a whole lot in his first year and then blossomed. It's not player x is the same as player y stylistically but in general, if the idea is patience is a virtue with young rookies Fox is a much better example.

So, do you like Garland or not? I can't tell.

Though I don't understand why he doesn't have the ball much... I REALLY like his passing. In that regard I think he's miles above all other guards on the team.

Hopefully this changes.

Coach is making sure he gets it before he hands him the reins. He has given Collin more free rein as he plays within the system better. He will do the same for Garland.

What I liked last night was that Garland got pushed around in the first half and then came out aggressive. People expected this kid to be Kyrie and be better than Sexton on day 1. That wasn't going to happen. The game hasn't slowed down for him yet and honestly his conditioning is not very good and I am 99% sure that is why he is struggling shooting.

In his first 5 interviews garland says,"these guys are fast and strong". He is adjusting, but it is going to take time. Loved how he caught fire last night. He needs to just keep launching whenever he is left open from 3. HE doesn't need to shoot every time, but if he gets daylight, go for it. We need the spacing.

The only way I eat Crow is if he starts taking and making 5-7 threes a game and averaging 5-8 dimes while also playing hard on the defensive side and not taking off plays

Complete list of players in NBA history to average 5+ 3PM per game and 5+ APG.
- Stephen Curry

Plus you want hard defense, something Curry has never done.

So basically the only way you'll admit you're over-hating on Garland is if he turns into a top-10 player in NBA history. Noted.

To me, it looks like Darius is thinking too much out there, and second-guessing himself in real time. He's probably had a lot of coaches in his ear about running the offense, getting other players their shots, while also getting his shots when they are there. Not easy to do, especially for a 19 year old who has played 15 games above high school ball.

I suspect we'll start to see it click for him before too long. We saw signs of it in the third quarter last night. If you're open, don't hesitate -- just let it fly.

He looked scared a few games ago and he is slowly figuring it out. He's very outmatched physically right now, so he has to fine what works for him. Collin had a hard time last year because what had worked all his life hadn't worked anymore. You have to pick your spots in the NBA.

I like instant results too but it just don't happen often. Garland just got here really, little experience, and different personalities learn at different rates. He may be fine, let's hope so. Look how Trae Young has really got it going now, started kind of slow last year.

I still think they drafted him to trade him , and nobody would give up value.

That doesn't make any sense.

By the time they were picking, they already would have known what offers were being made, and whether or not any of them were acceptable. And if there was no acceptable offer and they picked him anyway...then they didn't draft him to trade him.

Seems like some had anointed him as the steal of the draft before even seeing him play any basketball. He may very well eventually blow up to be one of the best shooters in the league, and a perennial all-star.

Or not. Too soon to know either way.

Starting to worry he may not have the physical tools to be a true star. He can use his handle to get in the lane and supposedly he can shoot but you need to have those spades if your not an uber athlete at the lead guard position. Wall and Westbrook have physically declined but now you have Morant and Fox as the future. Then the other type you see is Trae Young types who can shoot the light out.
He can shoot lights out but I think he’s having a case of the rookie Hershey squirts. Please god let him avoid a Markell farts situation...knock on wood.

So shoot, but don’t shoot, but definitely shoot? I had to, sorry. I do agree tho it’s just a matter of time before those open 3s start dropping and he drops 6 more pts and hopefully 2 more assists per game consistently. Wouldn’t that be the nards.

No I meant he doesn't need to force it, but they are rightly going under and he is getting wide open looks. I want him to shoot that every time. He can shoot from 30 feet supposedly. I don't want him doing that every time down the floor.

It is funny when we talk about development it is always wanting the rookie to have really free rein, but Kawhi didn't. He was in a very structured system and it has taught him well.
