Yeah, No Shit. That was the thing - like some people seem to believe in this loud Billy Knight type. How about a Teddy Roosevelt. Hah. Now that I think of it, I will ask Blatt what he thinks of Teddy Roosevelt at the end of a shootaround or pregame presser -- the kind of shit they don't even always put up on Cavs.com

He's not a guy who shows people up, but he will demand things from people. David Blu was saying - I think I had it in one of my pieces -- that you'd always see him pulling guys aside and talking to them one-on-one. Tha'ts the coach I want, Not Byron Scott trhowing me under tthe damn bus. I mean what passes for coaching - and this guy gets shit??

I don't have a problem with coaches showing emotion, but doing it with purpose and at the right times is critical.

I hated Byron Scott's folded arms, laid back, I really don't give a shit attitude. But I don't like coaches like Doc (who is so overrated by the way) throwing hissy fits throughout the game, and basically coming undone at the seams.

Pop is known as a hard discipline, no tolerance type of guy. Usually when his teams are playing like absolute shit, and getting killed, you won't even see any emotion from Pop. Not chirping in the ears of the officials, not screaming at guys, just totally mum. He's just totally chill.

David is totally chill too.

David might be a first time NBA coach, but you can tell he's been through the thick of shit before, and isn't going come undone when things get tense.

The guy is great. I was tough on him at the start of the year, he's grown on me a lot. He's outcoaching everyone. Wouldn't be surprised if he even schools Kerr too.

Actually Blatt was not a very calm guy in Europe haha he was always screaming at players and refs. But he knows that he doesnt gat in the US the same respect he gets here so he's a little more down to earth AT THE MOMENT. Give him time he will scream at everybody

I really liked that comment Blatt had in his presser about the "Big 1", and saying that the "Big 1" is the team as a whole. Change in emphasis from the media-created "Big 3" that implicitly placed some players above others. That "Big 1" is kind of a cool phrase when put in that context.

And I thought the context of the "Big 1" was JR's pipe? :conf (8):

I am sure he probably does his fair share of screaming. But he doesn't let the pressure get to him though. Pop is a screamer too.

Whether you scream or not as a coach, all comes down to style and preference I guess. Doesn't matter to me, but what does matter is how a coach handles himself in critical moments.

If a coach is screaming just because he's panicking, then players see through that shit, and you probably lose a lot of them with that kind of act too.

That's true, but I don't think he will behave the same as he behaved in Europe, even if he gets ton of credit. In NBA you need to be more mild. Otherwise you'll get into trouble with the league and with the players.

If the Cavs end up losing to the Warriors in the Finals it won't be because Kerr outcoaches Blatt. That I know 100 percent.

Exactly. You have to pick your spots, not go off like a loose cannon. Pop is a genius at that.

and scream in private. None of that shit needs to be shared with us, the press, tbh.

I watched a lot of Doc Rivers over the years and he's pretty dramatic, but I think he's a bit of a cheerleader, he uses his emotions to try to goad/coax his team. Like anything it can be effective until it's not.

I always thought Daly was a good mix.

All coaches scream sometimes. The key is to use it sparingly and not become known as an Avery Johnson type who teams just tune out after a while.

Agree, players see through it too. If you scream like a lunatic all the time, they just tune you out.

Doc's teams choke for a reason. He panics a lot, he loses his cool, and in result, so does the team.

He got away with it in Boston because he had a well-rounded veteran group that didn't need any hand holding.

Blatt has coached himself two good games..the Hawks don't look like the 60 win team. They are not built for the intensity of the playoffs..oh but wait..the Cavs were supposed to have folded by now.

Some numbers of an injury riddled team:

Cavs have the #2 offense:

1. GSW: 107.5 per 100 possessions
2. Cavs: 107.4 (if they didn't take the air out of the ball in the 4th qrt. in multiple games, Cavs would easily have the most efficient offense.
3. San Antonio: 106.9
4. Dallas: 106.1
5. LAC and HOU: 105.9

Note below that we are virtually tied for the best offense even though we have played 8 games against the #1 and #4 defenses.

Cavs have the #1 defense

1. Cavs: 98.1, Bulls 98.1
3. Wiz: 98.4
4. Hawks: 98.9
5. GSW: 100

Cavs have the #2 defensive FG% allowed (41.2%)

Cavs have the #1 three point defense (28.6% allowed)

Cavs have the #1 defense from 15 ft and out (31.6% allowed)

Cavs have the #1 NET efficiency (ORtg minus DRtg)

1. Cavs: +9.3
2. GSW: +7.5
3. Bulls: +2.4
4. Spurs: +2.3
5. Hawks: +2.1

Maybe they can create a "Coach of the Playoffs" award.

Well, I wouldn't sell Kerr short.

The wasn't much Kerr could do on a basketball court, but he was a killer 3 pt. marksman, and presumably, learned very well exactly what type of plays to run to get open shots for your 3 point marksman. And while Curry is better than Mark Price ever was, they have very similar offensive games, so he has the benefit of seeing that as well.

Whether he can outcoach Blatt, who knows? But Kerr is pretty much the perfect offensive coach for the specific personnel on his team. If we do manage to shutdown/contain the Splash Brothers, it's going to be because there is no counter for our defense, not because Kerr screwed up and didn't make adjustments that a better coach would have made.
