I was irritated by the league appealing, but the fact that Roger or someone in the league office isn’t handing down the final decision makes it way more palatable. If it had been Roger himself, this would have seemed like a giant circus with a preordained ending. I’m especially relieved that this process won’t take an eternity.

I suspect watson will get more than 6 games, but I doubt an independent reviewer will give the league exactly what they’re asking for. If anything, I suspect they may think it will come down similar. Maybe 8-10 games with a fine and they’ll be able to say they did everything they could. Very much an optics move IMO.
Why would Roger appoint someone who wouldn’t rule in favor of what the NFL wants? This guy likely wants to continue to have a good relationship with the NFL.

For all intents and purposes, it might as well be someone from the league office.

I think it is worthwhile noting that we are talking about the NFL's "Personal Conduct Policy.". So to the extent people are comparing organizational or team failures to personal, individual conduct of players, and expecting owners to be punished the same, it isn't under the same set of rules/standards.

I don't need to see this guy's previous rulings.

The NFL has clearly given him a stream of business as an arbiter on several cases. He also serves on the Diversity Committee.

Whether he's corrupt or simply human, he's not going to spit in their face. As the old adage says, you don't bite the hand that feeds you.

You just hope he stops short of the nuclear option of 1) full year, 2) indefinite, 3) unprecedented fine, 4) mandated therapy. (I personally couldn't care less about 3 & 4 but I'm sure Watson would, thus increasing the chances of a lawsuit)

Rodger, I mean Peter, is dropping the hammer. He's going to give the NFL exactly what they want with the year plus indefinite suspension and then the suits will be filed. In the end they NFL will probably get exactly what they want.

But in relation to the CBA stating the exact opposite, isn’t that important? League owners held to a higher standard.

Except, of course, when they aren’t. Always.

Well I guess you have to ask yourself what they ACTUALLY want vs what they’re saying they want. I think they probably want him to provide something that won’t lead to any type of lawsuit and is BETTER than the Robinson ruling. I don’t think they actually want an indefinite suspension despite saying as much and I believe they want someone else to be the scape goat. Obviously I’m just guessing here.

I also find it hard to believe that someone who is a long time professional is going to completely compromise his professional ethics and give the NFL whatever they want and act as a rubber stamp. Is he likely to be MORE sympathetic? I have no doubt. That doesn’t mean he’ll just give them whatever they ask for.

They are held to a higher standard under the Personal Conduct policy for their own personal conduct. But if you're not talking about personal conduct at all, then its apples and oranges.

There will not be another hearing.

As best I can tell this gentleman will simply review the written documents provided by the NFL, the NFLPA and Judge Robinson and based on those items he will determine if a heavier punishment is to be levied against Watson.
And Judge Goodell can still say nope not enough we want a year, correct? Or does the NFL present to him their recommended suspension and he will decide if fair or not fair???

No this is it. What Pete says is final, pending a lawsuit.

So, like, when Jerry Jones was sued for allegations of sexual assault, including insertion?

Or Dan Snyder, and the countless accusations against him directly? Or the multitude of financial crimes he’s currently being investigated for?Or Mark Davis? Or Richardson?

It’s a complete farce that the league holds its owners to a higher standard. All small fines, no suspensions. But the league wants 12+10mil from a player.

Unless it’s cheating, the only thing the NFL does care about.

He will get 10 games and a big fine

No one is going to be “happy” but no one is going file a federal lawsuit to challenge.

8-10 games and a big fine seems like the outcome, and honestly probably a fair outcome. Both sides are pissed, then it is fair, lol

NFLPA won't accept in increase in games and a big fine. Lawsuit.
