It's easy to look back now and say, oh wow, this guy would have been a great pick. Thats how the drafts go, do me this though instead.

Find me one GM in the NBA that has a good draft record, you do that and Ill find you ten that dont.
I should let this go but there were plenty of choices: we had drafted Mihm the year before so I'm not sure what we were thinking. We desperately needed a young perimeter player as Murray clearly wasn't going to be the stud we needed but instead of listeing to his gut Paxson went ahead and drafted Diop. He wanted either Joe johnson or R. Jefferson but he was too weak to stick to his guns. I still can't figure why he hired John Lucas in the first place but then he went and went along with him in terms of picks? Stupid. There might have been worse GM's then Paxson but he certainly was not a good GM

I dont see how you cant say he did a good job.

Without Paxson, we wouldnt be in the situation we are in now. We are in a chance to build a team for the future.

Look at all the crap that Paxson had on his roster, he could only do so much.

He blundered a couple draft picks, yes, but he left the table with the next guy having a GREAT hand to play with.

Please remind me what Embry left in his hand for Paxson.

You may not like him, but dont be foolish and say he did a bad job.

Don't be foolish? You really don't think I have a case?

I strongly disagree. He did a good job of dumping salaries. I give credit where credit is due but then he had a nasty habit of overpaying for mediocre FA's. He also deserves building a team lousy enough to get Lebron

A gm's job is not about the player but also about coaching:
Randy Whitman
John Lucas
Paul Silas

All three were big dissappointments and the hiring of John Lucas was completely foolish. I'm still baffled about that hiring and I have never heard a cogent explanation of why he was hired

Draft Picks:
Lebron: no brainer. the Gund would have been burned down if the Cavs didn't pick him
Mihm: ok - no real problem with the pick
Diop: One of the worst lottery pick evere
Wagner: Why trade Miller away for this chump. i didn't like the move then and it beared out
Boozer: Good pick but his other second round selection didn't exactly work out

FA's
Ollie - way too much money fo rthis loser
Newble - again way too much money for what should be a good bench player. The lowest PER rating of any starting SG in the league
Boozer - probably not his fault but happened on his watch

Trades (more in Paxson's favor, but he has some big dud's here as well)-
Kemp - good
The Davis trade - we pretty much got the short end of the stick
Gooden/AV - the one truly great move of his stay
Miller for Miles - awful
Miles for Mcinnis - even more awful
Welsh trade - err I guess I'm still looking foolisg

Now this is the GREAT hand he has left us?
We have cap space but THREE position to fill with that cap space: C, SG, and PG
He's left us one draft pick in the next three years and no lottery pick this year. This hurt us because we can't even use this picks for trade bait.
In addition, isn't it ironic that the position, SG, which this FA class is strongest that we have two of our prospects already in (Sasha and Luke)

We still have a chance because we have one in a lifetime player in Lebron if you think Paxson deserves credit for building a team bad enough for long enough to get Lebron then I guess he didn't do such a bad job

I guess we can agree to disagree but don't call me foolish because I don't exactly have a weak case

DUDE' "WHAT" ?

the damn spurs draft towards the end in every single draft, and yet they still find better players then our lottery rejects.

MANU round 2
parker late, late LATE round 1
beno will be solid

and i think they have the draft rights for luis scola if i'm not mistaken....

bottom line--- DADDY WAGS' was coach luke's pick - because they had a prior relationship.

and who's to say if we didn't draft a high school flop the year before, we might have drafted a high school stud who "OH YEAH BTW went 9TH" 3 picks after wags...

and we all know for that paticular draft there was 5 guys the cavs were looking at

NENE, AMARE, DAJUAN, CARON, and QYNTEL

they thought they could pull a deal to get caron as well as dajuan.

i thought dajuan was going to suck from draft day- (all i heard was a stronger iverson comparison) well iverson gets his by his quickness not his strength.

and if we didn't have that stiff from the year before out of high school, they might have taken a chance on AMARE (who knows)

all i know is we sucked enough after that 2002 draft to get "THE KING" in the 2003 draft.................... so lets go from there.
