Assuming this is just a 1 for 1 trade w/o factoring in roster, why would the board be livid at trading Mobley for LaMelo Ball????

I've said all year there are 3 guys I'd trade Mobley for straight up.

Giannis, Luka, and on some nights LaMelo.
Ok. So futuredome and Rich.

Everyone on this board (other than maybe futuredome) would be LIVID if we traded Evan for any of Tatum, LaMelo, or Young. Please. Ja is an interesting case, but Evan is substantially better as a rookie than he was. Luka would be debatable.

This list is a joke.
Tatum? Livid?

Ummm... no.

You're not answering the question. You made the post.

Why would the board be "LIVID?"

Have you watched LaMelo Ball play? Do you know what his stats were his rookie year? What they are now?

I’ll put it this way, if they traded Mobley straight up for LaMelo, I would be more excited than disappointed. You’re about to watch some entertaining shit for many years to come. Some would say the most entertaining show in the NBA

People talk on message boards. I think comparing Mobley‘s value to the rest of the young players in the league is interesting.
Giannis is completely understandable. I could even see an argument to be made for Tatum (though I would hang up on Boston if they called and proposed it), but I don't see any for Ball.

Came here to read about Mobley but then I'm reading about trading him for LaMelo.

Does Lamelo have top 5 potential? Does Mobley? Very early to say.

They are both really unique players and it is an interesting idea. They have a mismatch on most guys.

I guess I'd rather have Mobley because I believe he is just scratching the surface. Lamelo was an out of the box guy almost.

Usually means under 25, so Luka, Trae, Ja, Tatum, Lamelo are my guesses right now.

I dont agree with all, but he is up there with pretty elite company, the first 4 are easy to figure, the last could be LaMelo, Shae, Fox, Ayton, all would count as young prospects. 24 and under.

Lmao

I think you are right, i think there are enough fans that dont weigh any other factor than the "name" of a player (we have at least one if not a couple of them on this board), when looking at a trade. From that perspective it would be considered a "win" from some fans.

However the vast majority of this board would be very upset with such a trade. Mobley right now is a rookie and flashing signs of being an absolute superstar in this league, capable of being dominant on both sides of the ball for the next 15 years. His win share is equal to Tatums this year, and Tatum only has a 19 to 16 PER advantage (tatum being in year 5). Futhermore Tatum is already on his contract extension and just this year is making more money than Mobley will make for the next 3+ years. There are numerous player weighing values that show that Mobley is already having the impact of a top 50 player, lists which Tatum doesnt show up on.

So livid is probably too strong of a word, but it would be a terrible theoretical trade.

I probably have more posts about Mobley in this thread than anyone. I probably champion him more than anyone. But I think people are looking at the Celtic struggles and assuming Tatum is a failure.

prior to this down shooting season, Tatum shot 40% from 3 on 5.2 attempts per game in his career. The last three seasons he’s scored 25 ppg on good efficiency.

He’s a legit 25-4-8 player and he hasn’t turned 24 y/o yet. Pairing him with Garland would help him generate more efficient looks and hopefully play better defense. I love Mobley, but I don’t think you hang up the phone as soon as you hear the name “Tatum.”

You’re basically looking at a DPOY level defender who you hope can become a 20 points per game three level scorer. Vs one of the most talented scoring wings, if not the most talented, of his cohort and hoping that he can get better defensively. I go Mobley. But I’m not assuming Tatum‘s development is done either.

And this is to speak nothing of the contract differences/timeline. Just players straight up.

Stop looking at points/boards/assists in trying to compare Mobley's impact on the game. it is a huge injustice to Mobley to say "well he doesnt score as much as Tatum, so he doesnt have the impact". If you look at some advance stat rankings (win shares, PER, Value added, etc). You see Mobley already at or higher on the list than Tatum.

Additionally, Tatum numbers show he has already plateaued, and basically he already is who he is going be. Maybe one year he takes a small step forward in one stat or another. But chances are he isnt going to take another large step forward overall in his career, and in fact you could say Tatum's best year was 2 years ago.

Meanwhile Mobley is still a rookie. He takes any sort of significant step forward between now and year 2 and 3 (which should be expected) and he instantly is a top 15-25 player.
