So the Mobley "hype" train seemed much stronger last year, videos and promos, etc... I wonder if that was a conscious decision this year to not have as much? Or is he just chillin at the pool with some wheat thins? I know we've seen him in some other's highlight activities, but just thought it was curious. I'd think he'd want more "hype" for 1, hopefully become a bigger "star", and 2 probably helps get bigger endorsements etc../more money. But then again, perhaps strategically he doesn't want competitors to see what he's been working on.

I guess, I'm just starved for some NBA content, how much longer? haha.

That NBA dead zone is pretty tough. The only thing that saved us from it last year was the Mitchell trade on September 1st. With NFL and NCAA football starting up, MLB playoff pushes kicking in, and Messi mania, there's not much NBA talk going on at the moment aside from the boring FIBA tournament (sorry if anyone is a fan).

But, I think you're right. It seems eerily quiet on the Mobley hype train at the moment. I fully expect that to change here rather quickly, but it is a bit surprising the Cavs havent continued their full on media blitz to promote Evan.

It was really low when he was coming in. People accepted he was a great top pick, but nobody talked about him as a gamechanger and no one thought he would be effective day 1. I got a Kyrie Lebron vibe from him with how effective he was compared to say Sexton or Garland. When you are quietly effective people take that for granted quickly.

I would bet that part of it is the team needs to promote other people - the new guys need hyped and DM needs to be shown how much he's loved and needed if we are going to convince him to stay around. I also wonder of some of it is that Mobley himself isn't interested in doing the self-promotion. A lot of the off-season hype comes from the player's own camps. Mobley just seems to be one of those guys who doesn't really care if his name and face aren't constantly in front of people.

He says stuff like. "Yeah that would be pretty cool, but winning is all that matters." very low key guy who wants wins not accolades.

Mobley may help the Cavs win a title someday, but his personality is Kareem like. Part of bringing in Mitchell was about a figurehead selling the brand. Mobley has the personality of a statue. Garland is too weird and frankly not good enougn.

Of course with Emoni the great now, Mitchell may no longer be needed.

This is...a take.

Mobley has been pretty good to start his career but i feel like this upcoming season is the year we'll find out if he'll become the Superstar we're all hoping he'll be. He's already there defensively but can he take that next step offensively? He doesn't need to make 3s, i'm just looking for him to dominate from 12' and closer. Can training just start already!

Big men take longer to develop, especially when you're no longer rebuilding and forcing the issue. Defense is instinctive for him (and even there he can get caught overhelping). Offensively, he's a work in progress. He is a good passer already and can see over 90% of the guys guarding him, if he can start consistently converting that midrange shot, it will help bring his defender out to the 12 foot mark. That's when he'll become a real hub on offense and presents defenses with a different POA, especially with guys who can shoot from the corners. If develops a nice pump fake on the pass to get his defender cheating/leaning one way, he can put it on the floor and be at the rim after a single step/dribble.

Remember... Giannis only averaged 16.9ppg his 3rd year (close to what Mobley averaged in year 2) on worse FG%. With worse Reb #s and more MPG. Similar PER rating (I know... it's not perfect).

Giannis WAS a year younger though and way more raw... but lets give Mobley and his baby giraffe legs some time.

I am looking for that step where he realizes they are taking advantage of his overhelping. Where he starts to rebound in response and play man to man.

Kevin Garnett's year 3 was also high double digits not 20 points also. It just takes longer to develop bigs, i am very happy where Mobley is at his stage of development, his defense is further along than I expected though for sure.

Yes, minimal threes please. I cringed every time he attempted one.

Think Kevin Garnett range.
