Indians promote Marte to Majors
Club options utility infielder Vazquez to Triple-A Buffalo

CLEVELAND -- The key cog in the controversial trade that sent Coco Crisp to the Red Sox has made it to the big leagues.
Third-base prospect Andy Marte was promoted to the Indians from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday, with utility infielder Ramon Vazquez optioned back to the Bisons.

Marte, acquired along with reliever Guillermo Mota and catcher Kelly Shoppach in the trade that sent Crisp, David Riske and Josh Bard to Boston, has been generally regarded as the Tribe's third baseman for '07. At the time of the trade, the club said he'd need some more Triple-A seasoning before he'd be big-league ready, and he proved as much with a slump at the plate at the outset of '06.

In recent weeks, though, Marte has been as productive as they come. He earned International League Player of the Month honors in June by batting .304 with 10 homers and 22 RBIs. Earlier this month, he took home the Home Run Derby crown at the Triple-A All-Star Game in Toledo.

For the season, Marte has hit .261 with 15 homers and 46 RBIs. He's made 19 errors in the field.

Finally Shapiro calls this guy up.. Let's hope this means the end to Boone.

Trade Boone.

Happy to see Marte called up, a bit surprised it was before Aug 1.

Just hope fans don't treat him like that have Peralta this year if he struggles at the plate or defensively. I dont expect too much this year, just a get aquainted period. At least watching Choo and Marte play will give us something worth watching.

We got Boone for nothing, I dont care if they just release him. If Shapiro can fool some team into giving us something I would rather it be a Single A kid that just maybe turns into something than some old stiff.

I was VERY VERY happy to see that marte was called up. UNTIL i saw that he has 19 errors, damn and we thought boone was bad. his bat should be good atleast.

Expect more Richie Sexson than Travis Hafner.

Looking at his swing, he will always strike out alot. If he is very productive with his other ABs we can live with the SO.

He is pretty good defensively, there will probably be an adjustment period where he makes more errors than the fans like. But in the long run he should at least be OK defensively.

After Boone, it shouldn't be too hard to look good at the plate or in the field. Man was Boone a bad move by Shapiro and lowered his grade to C-

marte has 19 errors so he plays no def, 19 is wrost then A_ROD, mybe he hits like him to.:banghead: ya right.

Shows that you dont look at anything....he has been touted for his glove numerous times and a bad year in the field is ont reflective of his over all glove.

However...there is a lot of word that the guy that is replacing Marte in Buffalo, Kaz something is a better prospect. He is hitting over .400 at Akron, crazy

wow its not kaz matsui is it?kaz was with the mets and i havent checked on him anytime soon.

Kazmounoff..... he batted like .415 in Akron.. Kaz Matsui is with the Rockies now he was traded for Eli Marrero

What are you talking about? Over 400? The guy is hitting .386..

That's still high, but you are giving him credit for more than he is hitting..

Nonetheless he is a good prospect.. He just doesn't have the power bat that Marte has.. So far this season he has hit 15 homers and driven in 54 RBI's..

I still think Marte is a better prospect, but Kaz isn't that far behind..

Here are his stats, BTW:

I'd almost compare him to Aaron Boone..

ya A_MAK i dont look at anything. 19 errors is not a BAD SEASON its a disgrace. A-ROD has the hitting numbers to back that up, altough he is still getting alot of beef.
i can live with marte making errors, but he will have to prove to be a good hitter.

Defense and Pitching win in the playoffs..

Just go ask the Sox and Astros last season.. Or the Marlins when they defeated the Yanks..
