Baker can make all the throws and looks the best of any QB that has been in a Browns uniform in decades. He just needs to get better. Pump the brakes in here. Sheesh.
Facts! Also he has shown flashes, not saying that they are enough, but the promise he has shown leads me to beleive that his problems are solvable and as his career progresses we will see that.

I agree a lot of this (not all)falls on the offensive line. When we look at the timing of throws and how long Baker holds the ball, we have to take a look at the fact that in order to get to Baker defenses can use a four man fron and still get to the quarterback, giving more defenders to the pass game and muddying up short reads. Its not the case all of the time but just another piece in the coaching game of chess i feel like Freddy is missing or not adjusting to. Baker needs to be put in a position to succeed which is up to coaching.

His inaccuracies and timing misses are on him but he needs to be put in the best possible scenario to succeed which he is not. Just my 2 cents

Does anybody else think Freddie’s explanation for his clock management before the end of the half Sunday is just patently absurd? His reasoning for not milking the clock is because he was planning for us to score twice before the end of the half. Twice!!

That is just insane to me. It’s making decisions based on something that has like a 15% chance of happening.

This is the kind of shit that worries me about him being head coach going forward. Something like that would be more acceptable if we were playing from behind by a significant margin, but we had the lead! He doesn’t realize his own costly decisions and why the vast majority of NFL head coaches would choose differently.

I couldn’t bring myself to watch pressers yet this week but that is remarkable

I have never seen an nfl team take that approach. Not a single one. Even the ones with elite top 5 QBs where that percentage goes up (btw I think 15% is really high, I Know it’s more of a hypothetical because I doubt there’s data out there for this exact situation but I view it as even less likely) don’t manage games that way. They all are content to take their score and make sure the other team doesn’t have a chance to answer before going to half

Yeah, this was absolute idiocy from Freddie.

He's just a horrible game manager at this point. Just awful situational awareness.

I didnt watch the game because I was driving to a wedding, but if given time do you guys think Freddie can improve in game management? I think he gets the whole season, but if he continues to mismanage the game and situational play calling.. I don't know what he does well enough to keep him.

Most first year coaches are. Gotta give him the time and hope he gets better as the season continues. If we end at .500 or better I think he's earned a second chance. If not, clean house and offer Lincoln Riley all the money in the world.

Oh, I agree completely. I think Freddie has already done some good things and is noticeably improving. Hopefully the trend continues.

Riley's current salary would rank as the 9th highest paid coach in the NFL.

Also who was the last college coach to jump staight to the pros and be successful, especially without any previous NFL experience?

That part was meant to be tongue in cheek, but I'd at least consider Riley if I'm the Browns (and Kitchens flames out down the stretch). He got the absolute best out of Mayfield and Kyler Murray and his offensive concepts are being used all over the league these days.

So I saw a breakdown where someone said Baker has not had a check down in a majority of every single play.

Can anyone confirm this or deny? If so, that’s maybe one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard in my life.

Not able to check the context now...anyone know if Ryan Lindley's Baker interception quote is what it seems to be, in terms of throwing #6 under the bus?

Old enough here to remember when Lindley was arguably the one QB to see an NFL field in 2014 who was worse than Johnny that season. Even started in the playoffs due to injuries, and got embarrassed by a sub-.500 Panthers team...

Old enough to remember when a coach's playing career was used to measure their coaching abilities.

It seems that a generation of shitty former players becoming Hall of Fame coaches hasn't swayed the casual digs like that at the behest of other players not living up to their potential.

Here are some of his quotes:

“On a day-to-day basis, you still see the things he does on the field and the way he carries himself,’’ Lindley said Tuesday. “The best part is he’s still young and he’s still growing. You see what that kid’s going to become and what he is and that’s something special.’’

“[Defenses] are mixing up coverages,’’ he said. “It’s something you see with everybody when guys go from their first to second year. Everybody builds a book on different guys scouting report-wise. He’s going to see different looks. People have looked at his tape last year, too, and we’re seeing how people play him differently.

“We’ll continue to see how he can react and adapt to those things and we’ll also change what we do.’’

“He’s seeing things for the first time and people are throwing different looks at him than he’s seen,’’ Lindley said. “We’re learning as we go. We’re in a heckuva lot better place than we were a few weeks ago.’’

He said the biggest thing for Mayfield, who’s sitting out practice during the bye week with his hip injury but will be ready for New England Oct. 27, is to take what defenses are giving him.

“You don’t want to force things,’’ Lindley said. “Especially with where we’re sitting right now, the way Nick Chubb’s playing, we can do that. He’s running the ball well, we’re blocking well up front. Let’s just extend drives and keep things rolling.’’

“He gets all of them,’’ said Lindley. “We don’t put ‘em on anybody else; he’s got all 11 right now.’’

Lindley said the thinking there is, “in our room, you have to think that everybody has to be held accountable for what they’re doing. As coaches you have to do that, too. If I told him to do something that led to one of those interceptions, then it’s on me as well.’’

“You always want to work on your feet, you always want to work on your timing; I think it’s just details right now,’’ he said. “We need to hash some things out and make sure we’re in rhythm. If you want a buzzword, that’s probably it. We’re not all the way there.’’

“Sometimes it’s with his feet, he speeds himself up," he said. "At times he thinks maybe too quickly, his feet follow up and you’re trying to catch up. It’s a variety of different things. Whether it’s his feet, whether it’s his mind at times, we all need to iron it down and get on the same page.’’

“I think we have a good setup, and I’m really not going to comment on anything that we’re doing different now than we were the first part of the year,’’ he said. “I’ll just leave it at that. We have some good coaches here. ... It’s about us going on the field, getting better, and making plays.”
